I want to support this ebay seller, because dennyzhaogoods actually knows how his products work, and he's a pretty cool guy; just assuming he's a guy

When I sold my first item on ebay, they sent me a spin the wheel game of chance to win 5, 10, or 15 USD in ebay credit. So I used my $10 credit on the best laser I could find. I typed in "red burning laser", which returned less results than you'd expect, and sent the question 'how many milliamps is this laser driven at' to every seller who was listed. In the end, seller dennyzhaogoods was the only one to respond, saying about his $14 650nm red laser pointer:

Thank you contact me.

I was too busy today, the laser operation curren is 0.44A at 4.2V, the name of the laser diode is HLD6580250, the rated power is 250mw, the actual power is about 230mw.

So I knew he knows his stuff. And here it is

Here's its power on 3.2v and 4.2v

And the quality of the lens: it only has one spec of dust on the entire thing

This is, and I told him, the best thing I ever bought on ebay.

Wow! I am very surprised that something like this would come out of eBay! This is a great example of how to correctly deal with eBa.

thats scary how u can get such a powerful laser from ebay.

;P at least he was the only responsible one who understood how powerful it was. When I showed my father-in-law-to-be, he wanted one to put on a rifle. I asked dennyzhaogoods if he had a less powerful one, and he said:

Thank you contact me.

I search the message between us and here's what i said before:

' the laser operation curren is 0.44A at 4.2V, the name of the laser diode is HLD6580250, the rated power is 250mw, the actual power is about 230mw.'

And the laser safety information says:
Class IIIb
Lasers in this class may cause damage if the beam enters the eye directly. This generally applies to lasers powered from 5–500 mW. Lasers in this category can cause permanent eye damage with exposures of 1/100th of a second or less depending on the strength of the laser. A diffuse reflection is generally not hazardous but specular reflections can be just as dangerous as direct exposures. Protective eyewear is recommended when direct beam viewing of Class IIIb lasers may occur. Lasers at the high power end of this class may also present a fire hazard and can lightly burn skin.

So laser power from 5-500mw may cause damage.

You can't reduce the laser power unless you use a not full charged battery but i think your girlfriend's father won't do that. And because the laser is non-removable, you can do nothing to re-fit it.

The power is strong even reduce to 100mw, but if you don't put stuff at the laser focus, the power is not too high.

The laser safety is about human eyes and i don't think an adult will point at his eyes or others so i think you don't need to too worry about it.

PS: A diffuse reflection is generally not hazardous but specular reflections can be just as dangerous as direct exposures

He didn't know how stubborn my father in law to be is lol. I just bought him a $25 green rifle mounted laser since a 30mw reflection (5mw 532 + 25mw IR) would much less nasty. But it was nice of him to warn me how powerful lasers can be

Beam diameter? Beam divergence? Drive current? Focal range? Measurements on current regulation? Measurable temperature rise?

I don’t have a lab-type power supply, so I chose my freshest 18650 battery based on the thevenin resistance over the whole circuit where E=4.11v and I=0.37A => R=11.11ohms. Then I charged the battery and got that E=4.19v and I=0.38A then R=11.02ohms. Then tested the power and temperature (each minute) at the same time for 10 minutes:
http://laserpointerforums.com/attach...1&d=1428464156
T0=21.8C
T1=23.2C
T2=23.8C
T3=23.8C
T4=25.2C
T5=24.8C
T6=25.4C
T7=26.0C
T8=26.6C
T9=26.6C
T10=25.6C
(T11=26.8C)
Duty cycle appears to be infinite. Heat transfer approaches steady state when the highest surface temperature is 27C and air temperature is 20.0C. Ran it until 17min where power was 222mW and temperature was 26C. Sources of error include the refresh rate of the IR thermometer.

Spatial
Beam size at aperture was (5x4)mm. I don’t have a range finder, so this will be woefully inaccurate, but at approximately 27m, the beam size was (15x13)mm, giving a divergence of 0.74mRad via the equation θ=2〖tan〗^(-1) [(D_f-D_i)/2L].
At a far away distance, there appears to be what looks like some funky looking spatial features presenting as rings around the diverged dot. Is this just how the lens was cut?

When laser was focused to its closest convergence, at a distance of 150mm away the largest beam diameter was 40mm (θ=15).

That's awesome. Nice job. I used to like 635 more, but now I can also appreciate the very deep red of 650. And it's awesome seeing a 650 BEAM.
