PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Meh, unless you're hell-bent on having a portable meter in your pocket, you'd be better served getting a thermopile-based meter than a Lasercheck. Laserchecks have accuracy problems at certain wavelengths (405nm, 445nm), and you need filters to extend their range. Who even knows if that meter is calibrated anymore. For that price I'd rather put the money towards a Laserbee or ARGMeter or some sort of sensor to build into a meter.

Wow, I had no idea Coherent sold LPM's under 1,000$ :p

was shocked myself. i always thought that it cost at least $500 to have the Coherent name on anything, like how some other companies do business :p

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Here's the way I see it happening: I lay the LPM on the counter

Let me stop you right there. You need to have the button pressed for it to take a reading - it's easiest to use if it's in your hand. With something this small and light, you move the meter into the beam, not the other way around.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I'd just want it as a meter to use on my HeNes. Though a simple photodiode LPM would do the same for a third the cost.

Thanks Cyparagon for confidence in my clumsiness. Lol...That's a very good point as to this unit's features, but it won't handle my outputs anyway. Good luck to someone!

If you have another meter, that you bought with the money you saved from not buying a Lasercheck, maybe try building your "own" portable meter with pre-calibrated, wavelength-specific look-up tables. After all, that's essentially what the Lasercheck does anyway. It would be a good exercise.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but here are PL520 Osram 50mW Diodes for 120 dollars with free shipping from China. May be a good opportunity for members who are on the edge of buying one to get a good deal.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

It has to take the long boat ride of course, but for some time costs less than money. I am an impatient bastard though, so I get my 3 days shipping from DTR everytime.

Yeah, me too. My clients aren't waiting on Hong Kong.

Heres a FANTASTIC looking LPM. Meter is most likely calibrated. It's coming from Merideth Instruments (Very reputable company) Man would I love to have it. Dual readouts (Analog & Digital). Can measure in watts or joules (Not many meters I have ever seen can do this!) 300mW-30W Readout (Thats huge!)

At the very least... take a look at this meter even if you have no intentions to buy...
