Those HeCd heads are awesome looking. I wonder if they're truly dead or not. It'd be fun to hit one with an odin coil to see what happens. I'd buy one but I'm still eyeing that 20mw HeNe tube for a week or so ago. Maybe if they're still around in a few weeks I'll snag one.

EDIT: I realized after i posted it that its not really a GB and should have been placed under the deals section but hey, I blame that on feeling under the weather and Im sticking to it ;)

As mentioned in the thread, i think, I already bought two pairs and they are shipped. I have no affiliation with banggood and this is actually the first time ive ordered from them. They come highly recommended from what i can tell on BLF and thats actually where i found the deal

Hitting it with an oudin would be almost pointless. You would lase the He, but not the Cd.

These take several minutes (10-15+) to warm up. You have to vaporize, and disassociate the ions to lase them, it's not like an ion or other gas laser that's just already in a gas form. The Cd is a solid "chunk" that needs to be vaporized to be able to lase.

This is a process that cannot be emulated by the oudin.

Though once my actual working HeCd comes in, I will test out this one with that PSU just for kicks.

Ah I didn't realize that the Cd had to be vaporized each time it runs. I'd still love to get one some day. Along with a CO2, Krypton, 612 HeNe.... So many lasers so little fundage.

Since it is obvious quackery, I would expect more of a plasma ball thing going on there. Nowhere near the voltage of a tesla coil. Maybe 5kV.

Most people here buy these to excite the gas in their sick gas lasers. Since these are argon filled attachments, does it actually matter if it is 5k or 50k as long as it is a high enough frequency to excite the fill inside the ill laser?

It's a REO 0.5mW (rated) multimode 594.1.

This tube has a minimum of 0.5mW, and like most REO tubes <5mW, it is rated to have a max of 5mW. Though 0.5mW is the rated value. This model is no longer in production, their only yellow laser still being built is the LHYP-0201. The P is for linearly polarized, and the 1, rather than the 0, is to note a newer model. Perhaps after a large management change, or merger. The fact that this is a working REO relic, means that you have a nice laser in mind :)

LHYR-0050M.
L - Laser (duh)
H - Head (T will be used on a tube)
Y - Yellow
R - Random polarization
0050 - 00.50mW
M - Multimode

A nice laser, hope it goes cheap :)

I'm just pointing out it's not an oudin coil. I don't know what kind of voltages are required to kick an argon in the ass. But if all you need is plasma ball voltages, it would seem a $5 plasma ball is a better option than this $40 device. But maybe I better shut up since I know very little about zapping argons back to live. :yabbem:
