Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That ML is free game.

No fun money this time around.

Why not? D:

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I want to fly home for the holidays. Staying on base throughout them is miserable.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That HeNe is a good starter laser.

I wonder if the PSU for my box style argon would work for that. I'd need a squirrel cage fan and some ducting, and eventually another PSU and remote for it. That one is a lot newer than mine (by almost 10 years) so maybe I'd get a 7th or 8th line out of it. hmm. The thought of twi ML Argons running at once going into a nice diffraction mirror is drool worthy....

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I'd would wait until one is sold with PSU and cooling, if you don't already have a setup to operate it. Daguin sells some really nice ones, from time to time. I'd wait for one of them.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I have a fully working box style setup (from daguin no less) but would also like a cylindrical style one as well. I have no problem piecing together a full system even if it takes awhile as long as I can exercise it with my current PSU which from the looks of it I should be able to fine.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

If the price stays low I'll try for it, if it's not already called for.
Been interested in getting a small HeNe lately.

BTW: Any special tips for these auctions.

______ you could write a book on it--_________

there a a LOT of tricks to buying gas lasers from feebay. AND learning them the hard way can be VERY expensive- Dr Sam has a nice bit of info at Sam's FAQ a pretty enjoyable read too.)( go find it- his site is a bit hard to work with at first but stick to it and it becomes easy in time)
here are a few tips- see the sellers rep- look at a bunch of the comments- if others bought lasers that barely worked look for another seller-
Sam sez.. if it says 'unable to futher test' translation is likely its dead.
look to see if they are selling the PS seprately... thats a bad sign as they certainly can test and likey did. they are just being dishonest about it.

If the seller seems to know nothing you should enlarge any pics -find the model numbers and look the laser up at Sam' s- he has the power you should get- tells you the vdc and the right PS and the color if the seller does not know-- Matt got an orange HeNe CHEAP from a seller that had no clue what color it was and it worked too!!

Send the seller questions asap- how they reply or not is a tell.

There is much more to know than just this- post your finds in our thread with dibbs called and get the advice from others-- send your link to Sam- he likes to reply to such requests.
I sent him one 8 years ago and his advice was spot on- he said to pass on it as he was sure it was DOA- I saw who won the auction and they told me that Sam was correct. It was DOA and the buyer was stuck with it. Mostly you will find red HeNes on eekbay- some sellers are much better see the completed listing for the seller using search term 'HeNe'- one great source is our mod Daguin- he sells at great prices all the time especially Argons-

hope this is helpful to you PM me your feebay listings and I will give you my opinion. I have no need for any more red henes. I may put a few up for sale soon-- remind me later.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

take a look at this possible universal host cheap too less than 20$

I have sent this to Massdrop to see of we can get them even cheaper.
Its a zoom light-none of the parts are glued -so it comes apart very easy- not much 'heft' which if you are looking for a light laser is a good thing. it also comes in black- I was only able to find a single seller and they are out of the one I got but still have a black version listed.
As a host it would allow from 1.5 vdc up to 12 vdc using the sleeves and second battery tube. its a tail clicky only- GITD button. consider this to be a feeler post. Looking for a lathe operator wanting to work on this as a host.

The major things I look for are:

  1. Pictures of the item working
  2. Domestic vs international. If it's a HeNe, or HeNe PSU, this may be low shipping costs. Anything else, and you will possibly be paying more for shipping, than the item itself.
  3. If everything checks out visually, but no pictures of lasing, message the seller. If they don't know how to hook it up, walk them through it. If it's a laser you care about, put the effor into it as you see fit. Sellers can be very willing to do what they can to help, if it means they get a few bucks out of it.
  4. Lastly, take it all with a grain of salt. Check rep, check condition, do the research on the item. If it's a Siemens LGR-7656, don't assume that it's a green laser based on the "G" like all other manufacturers. Look up model numbers if you are not certain. If you see an MG tube or head labeled LIR-151, 171, or LFR-151, but there is no spot picture, or you can't see plasma because it's a head, don't ignore it. These are IR tubes, so you won't see the spot.
  5. Again, research, research, research. If you see something interesting, find out what it is, decide if you want it, and make decisions based on how bad you want it.
  6. Lastly, don't pay more than you can afford to lose if it arrives DOA. There is only so much that you can do to protect a glass tube from masochistic mailmen. If you aren't willing to pay $200 for a wind chime, then don't pay.

BTW if we do GB this light I will want one to use as-is. its a very nice flashlight- I forgot to mention it has 5 modes- three powers of brightness- a strobe and a S-O-S strobe too. I would be leery about buying from the only source I found so far as the have way too many neg. FBs at FleaBay--36 in just 12 months!!

Since nobody else has expressed interest on the ML Argon head bloom posted I'm officially calling dibs and will be bidding on it.

What, that ML 10mW without PSU and cooling?

Save your pennies and but one from daguin! His systems rock.
