Are we assuming for now that the 445 source will remain versions of the C. projectors?

Earlier statements re LG and SORA for example don't seem to be followed with additional info

I think the work on categorizing the bar- codes is the best effort to see what's going on with diodes. Also the Macro's are invaluable! It's hard to say about the binning going on. LD's are binned, yes, but to what extent for this product line. I hardly think there there are enough customers to say, accept all "rejected" parts from production runs of wafers. Unlike VCEL's, these diodes are essentially fully manufactured and ready to use before testing is done. There can be some large variations from die to die on one wafer, especially if certain variables may not be at play to keep costs extremely low. Remember, the whole idea of having large arrays of serial diodes, more that would be needed to acheive the lumen output of the product? Also some sort of standardized testing methods/ plot values for current ranges would be nice to see. Even some diode to diode comparisons with Po vs. Iop plots will be a nice way to visualize and summarize the value data and time being spend on this comparison.

Same here I don't know about when that might be released. However I think I may ask a little bit more about the new DLP technology tomorrow and maybe by tomorrow evening have some more answers for you on that question.
I do know that there is in the works, a new diode that is very close to 520nm. Right now the closest to absolute green is 515 nm which is the diode that RHD has in his pointers now.

It sounds like LG won't be releasing ANY projectors any time soon:

New industry analysis has shown that laser and LED-powered projectors are likely to provide the greatest growth for the international market in the coming years

The research, published by Pacific Media Associates (PMA), said that the sales of mainstream units of laser and LED projectors are expected to rise modestly this year, before gaining pace between 2013 and 2015, indicating a turning point for the technology, which is still considered to be in its relative infancy.

PMA’s vice president of projector research, Michael Abramson, said that the projectors are likely to become more and more popular in the pico, personal, toy or gaming projector categories.

“Shipments of laser/LED hybrid models are forecast to grow modestly this year, and then are expected to grow by more than 40 per cent each year during 2013 to 2015,” he explained.

“Shipments of laser-illuminated units are expected to begin in 2013 for the high-end and digital cinema ranges. In 2014, PMA anticipates a growth rate of more than 80 per cent for the high-end laser models and nearly double for the digital cinema laser models.”

He added that sales of medium-throw projectors are expected to rise by 20 per cent every year until 2014, with the average retail price halving by 2016.

Actually LG is performing pretty poorly these days. We had contracts suspended for a month with the manufacturing plant. Been pretty rought here. LG screws up continuously because of their poor management style.
Do without thinking would be my take on it. LG Innotech was supposed to be spearheading their green projector..

Got Dave's 3 diodes in the mail today: H, M, and A. Got images in the microscope, measured, etc. Haven't uploaded images yet, but thought I'd go ahead and post a quick update: The diode itself, in every way visible through a microscope, is identical in all 3 lasers. The dies are the same length, the ridges the same width, the coatings look the same, etc. In the 'scope, they are visually indistinguishable as far as I can tell.

I also need to find the calibration sample for the microscope software, or get somebody to recalibrate the 'scope for me next week. I've looked at an A140 diode before, months ago, and all the length measurements I took today were about 10% higher than the measurements I took before. I'm sure it's just the software calibration in the scope, but I need to check whether it's correct now or if it was correct then, or neither.

I'm going to try one other thing tonight, and of course upload images, but thought this worth an update anyway.

Just FYI -- The designations are A, M/H, & 9mm

The 9mm comes from a projector from a different projector manufacturer

Could you measure the bond wires diameter?

Honestly, I didn't even think about measuring the wires themselves. They all look the same to me, I think? You can try and compare them in the images I reckon.

Also, I confirmed that the microscope calibration is currently off, it was right the first time I measured an "A" diode, so they're all still the same as the "A" was months ago, 1200um long, 15um wide.

Low mag, top-down, but it's the highest mag I can do because the working distance is smaller than the size of the can. Can't get the objective any closer.

And now something a little different. I wanted to confirm the sizes, just to be extra sure, so I took it a step further. In the top-down views, the laser is at an angle, so the measurement is off because of perspective/foreshortening. I forgot to tell the computer to compensate for tilt before saving the images. Anyway, I only really cared enough to make sure they're the same, don't need that level of precision.

And this image is cool. It shows something interesting, and taught me something as well. Somebody guess what the horizontal black line is on the facet of the diode.

Looking at my own images again, there is a difference between the A and the H/M. It's not the diode itself, but the submount. The first SEM is the H/M, the second is the 9mm, and the third is the A. Of course you can see the square component, probably an ESD protection or something like that. But notice on the H/M, there is a space for that component prepared on the submount, it's just not there. That space isn't there on the A diode.

But the diodes themselves still look identical as far as I can tell.

Cool pictures. Is the black/white pictures from an electron microscope ? The pictures have a high contrast. Because the diode is already gold-plated I think.
