If it helps, I can do some US photos - again, I do not want to intrude on Blords turf - but shipping for US members might be far more expensive to another country. And contrary to the beliefs of some, South Carolina is NOT another country!

I will also return the diodes if you need them photographed but want them back. I'm not looking for handouts.

EDIT: Just to be very clear, because I know how these things can be mis-interpreted by others. I am not suggesting that Blord is looking for handouts or anything like that. He has obviously helped understand the diodes much better with some REALLY GOOD macro shots. I just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't trying to step in to offer to take shots just to get free stuff. Hopefully no one will misunderstand.

Here are some VERY QUICK shots I just took tonight to see how well my macro setup will work. I have a Canon 7D with a 100mm macro lens. I can get much closer than this too - I just did these very fast.

Nice to see another photographer with a 7D and EF 100mm macro. Please do take pictures. Diodes are good objects to use in photography.
I have a reverse 50mm in front of the 100mm macro to get that extra magnification. You need a buy a reverse coupler to fit both lenses.

From the pictures you have taken I would say it looks like the H1600 diode. The angle of the tiny wires in side the diode is much steeper than that from the A140.

You inspired me, I ordered a 100mm L macro last night. I'll sell the EF. My wife bought it for me RIGHT before the L version came out. I have a 50mm 1.4 though. I'll order a reverse coupler.

Actually they are from a 16x sled I had opened up just to see what was in it - they were the only things I had laying around to experiment with easily late last night.

Hey guys,

can someone confirm that the m140 we are talking about here is actually K@sio XJ-M140? I'm going to buy one and I need to make sure to choose good one (laser diodes).

Just for the record: K@sio XJ-M140 is cheaper than K@sio XJ-A150 here (about 300 bucks difference) and I hope the xj-m140 is the one everyone here is talking about.

I'm not sure if there is anything beyond xj series so just making sure

Generally speaking, the companies that make these do not like the idea of them being used in this fashion. It is assumed that they crawl the web looking for mentions of abuse of these products.

So in an effort to keep from drawing attention, many members use a form of the brand name that would not be recognized by an auto search.

Whether it makes any difference or not, who knows? But it is a precaution that most folks here take.

I'm not sure what your "simple" question is

We talked about the A-series, the M-series, and the H-series

Have you read the thread?

It would be VERY odd for different manufacturers to use the same model numbers for their products

There is very little ambiguity here

Just grab the one from my shop. It is as cheap as you will find it and they are the good ones.

I have some 445nm diodes left from the last A140V series projector I purchased, and they have that distinct circle mark above the square bar code matrix. I didn't look at any under high magnification but it's fairly obvious after seeing Dagiun and Blord's photos. I don't have a diode can remover to verify the insides, but the diodes, of several I've tested, seem to have outputs on par with the M140's. Is there a place to look to find when the projector was manufactured? At first look, I didn't notice anything with a manufactured date on it.

If you would like, I will trade you for one of mine and decan yours

The mystery deepens

I got the diode from Clif today that he reports came from an A-140V projector

I decanned it

It is the same diode as I found in the M and H series projectors

It looks like, maybe, they switched over to using the more powerful diode in all of the projectors at some point.

Now we have to ascertain what the switchover date or model is

This harkens back to the 803T vs DT diodes in the old HD-DVD converters :/

So far we have not found the less powerful diode in the M and/or H series,
but we have found the more powerful diode in at least one of the A-series projectors

The only external indicator is the small dot/circle above the square code
