A-140 vs. M-140 vs. H1600

Guys that was kind of simple question but I will make it even simpler:

M140 we are talking here is K@sio XJ-M140? I'm making sure before buying this one or XJ-A140.

Are you really asking whether:

"M140"
=
"XJ-M140"
or
"XJ-A140"

Is that seriously your question?

I got the diode from Clif today that he reports came from an A-140V projector

I decanned it

It is the same diode as I found in the M and H series projectors

It looks like, maybe, they switched over to using the more powerful diode in all of the projectors at some point.

This is something I've believed for a while. Garoq also reported that his A-series diodes from new A-series projectors were performing like M-series diodes.

I don't really think the diodes are binned actively based on their merits. If anything, KasEO gets new shipments from Nichia, and they cycle them into their production line. MAYBE they consciously allocate the newer diodes to higher end projectors, on the fly. But I'm certain that at this point, all of the diodes that are going into projectors are coming from relatively recent shipments from Nichia. I think they just cycle through their supply. Nichia improves their diodes, so we see better performance once those newer diodes make it into our projectors.

Dave: Can you read the QR Code off the back of the diode? I think that's the only way to really distinguish the diodes. Otherwise, we really have no idea how "new" a projector is. It could have been on BestBuy shelves for a year, for a month, for a day, etc. The diode QRCode serial however, is stamped on by Nichia. If it's a 3,3XX,XXX series diode, then it's the same / as new as the M and H series.

This is great to know Dave, & thanks for the diode examination and findings here. I wish there was an easy way for me to tell when my projector was made, b/c certainly we all would like to buy the cheapest projector chock full-o-diodes and get the best performing diodes, and keep our costs down to a minimum. As long as they keep making / selling the A140 series that is. The good thing is we now know that the little circle mark above that square bar code is the "unofficial indicator" of the more powerful diodes.

Now we have to ascertain what the switchover date or model is

I assume that could significantly decrease the price of 445 builds if the diode suppliers didn't have to spend the extra $ on higher end models! Great info!

Well, the hope is to not have to significantly increase prices, of course right now the going rate for a seller of the 445nm diodes is ~$50 or so (except for DTR & those guys that have discount codes ;) )

But... if we keep having to buy more and more expensive projectors..... ~$900 with the "M" model, and the "H" model is almost double. I suppose the good thing is, that they seem to keep putting more powerful diodes inside.

Yeah, but I am assuming that as the 3,500 and 4,000 lumen projectors come out that the A-series may drop in price. If they have the same diodes then we could potentially see a lower price for diodes?

I still wonder if the 4,000 lumens 1700 series might have better or more diodes. Expensive to find out though, and you have to start paying for 3d and crud we don't need.

It will have more diodes.

The H-1600 is wired for 40 diodes, but only contains 32. There is literally a ribbon cable, in place, ready for those extra 8 diodes. They don't even both to use a different PCB for the H-1600 over the H-1700. They just use one fewer channels.

Anyone knows how many diodes may contain XJ-A155V? I can get it pretty much at the same price as M140 but since it's "only" 3000 lumens it has probably 24 diodes as usual, just wondering if it's better than M140.

I'll try to get it all in one place here for you and others

The A-series and the M-series contain 24 diodes
The H-series contain 32 diodes
The H-series diode assembly has room for 8 more diodes

The A-series and the M-series contain a red LED
The H-series contain a red and a blue LED
In addition the LED's in the H-series are more powerful

Until clif showed this last diode,
The A-series had a less powerful diode than the M-series and the H-series
The M-series and the H-series use the same diode

Now we have the potential of finding the more powerful diode in the "more recently" manufactured A-series as well
We have not yet determined a way to tell when an A-series projector was manufactured

The only external sign that the diode is the more powerful model, is a spot/circle just above the square code on the diode
The square code (and spot) are UNDER the "plastic", salmon colored, spacer on the diode pins

Thank you, I'm really glad you did it for me.

I'm going go for M140 then however I'm still thinking whatever I should get diodes from DTR (love this guy) or buy that projector.
 
Too bad they started putting those stinking "void if opened" stickers on the projectors' lamp access panels now :mad:

(we coulda popped open the back panels and "checked" the diodes before removal :shhh:)

It strikes me that these are probably bare serial numbers. This could actually be useful to us, as we watch the progression of diodes. I would love to get more people to provide the codes, so I'm going to open up a thread for that purpose.

I'll add one more dumb question to the mix. Does the "slim" designation or other different styles seem to change anything that we know of, or is it just the A, M and H designations that seem to matter right now?
