(Video Added)The worlds most powerful handheld 445. 3.5W 2 LD array

Re: The worlds most powerful handheld 445..... 3.5W 2 LD array

31.5mm dia on the head and 227mm in length, body is 25mm diameter..
The internal head is approx 27mm which is the heart that holds the diodes
and optics..

Here is a quick pic in my hand as well..

Yes. :D Its actually 2 buck drivers running the LD's seperately. Running
them in parallel would end up being wasteful with resistors to balance
the draw.. One LD is putting out 1.92W and the other 1.58W post optics.

Since the head is already at >31mm, have you considered making the body to fit two 32650 or 26650 type batteries?

Peace,
dave

I feel Late to the Party.

WoW WB. This is Mouth Dropping.

Man i dont expect nothing but the best from you.. But when ever it seems that you have topped out, You seem to blow me away every next project you put out. I can only imagine what you have on those drawing papers.

I agree. Alot of thought goes into his laser.:)

Wow! 3.5W. I would be to afraid to deal with that kind of power ;)

Absolutely fantastic! +1

Hasn't he found a way of tying a knot in that thing...
Sorry for the Threadjack WB

LOL, think most men would like to be able to do just that

Peace,

Im going to order some different sized batteries, mainly larger cells..
The last batch of cells I got were strictly for lower power builds, but
have hit what you could call a break through in design and will be
moving forward on the larger builds oppsed to smaller pens..

 Thanks.. This laser took many 'rehearsals' in that ive machined many
square blocks of aluminum into combined labbys, but only recently got the
setup to the point I could shrink it into a handheld.. Since I upgraded ,y
lathe, only good things have come about.. I was limited to a mini lathe
and could not do what I can now. From this point on, its a matter of
more time on scratch builds and moving forward.. :D

Wow! 3.5W. I would be to afraid to deal with that kind of power ;)

Honestly its not that bad.. Like any laser of high power, treat it, and its use
with respect and all will be good..

Im going to attempt a full array at some point of 24 LD's straight out of
the projector into a big labby.. With one of the projectors I had, I ran
the array outside of the projector, put my hand in the path of the
24 LD beam and could literally feel the moisture in my hand 'sizzle' from
several feet away. That was probably only 12W or so, and was pretty intense.

Oh man I just saw this thread...

Sure wish I could see the inside! :D

Nice build!

This is amazing man! Congratulations! Very nice!

A project which has finally come to fruition...

I have been working on this idea for some time and am in the
final stages of assembly.

This host has been designed to accommodate 2 high efficiency
diodes paird up with a set of DrLava's cylindrical optics, and
2 x 405-G1 lenses from Jayrob..

I must say that so far this is my personal best, and cant wait
to test this out fully assembled. I have incorporated the concept
of 'knife edging' but with a slight twist.. The route I have taken
will remain a secret... for now..

All optics in the head are AR coated and glass.. of course.

The collimators used is a set of Jayrobs fine 405-G1 aspherics, making
for one hell of an output, 3.5W after optics with reduced divergence :eg:

The unit is powered via 2 x 18350 in series with a total current draw
of 2.2A from the cells.

I will add some more pics when this is finished, though the unit is already
sold :cryyy:

I have 2 more sets of cylindrical correction optics, and plan on 2 more of
these. I am also working on a lower cost model which uses standard aixiz
glass lenses and no correction.

The output will not be as high without the aspherics, but will bring the
cost down a bit.

As it stands, this laser has more $$ in parts and machining time than any
other of my builds to date..

Enjoy some pics :san:

This is EPIC no other words to describe it, just truly amazing. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you spend on it and how much did you sell it for. Had to be one pretty penny (but worth it )
