New High Power Blu-ray Sled! - SF-AW210 Graph!

Jacob are you sure??

210mW's at only 170mA's is completely off the charts like GooeyGus'! Wow...

If that's true, then we are really getting some very mixed readings with the diodes from these sleds.

Yeah I'm really starting to think that what we have is the 'norm' and maybe dave had a couple 'bad freaks'.

I'll let you know tomorrow when I power up the other few that I have.

How could it be?
He doesn't even have an LPM...

I'm guessing Dave measured it and told him what it was at...

The output was measured by me @ 210mW.  I am acting as a middle man for a sale.  The question is about the current.  Jake reports that it is only 170mA.  It has an AixiZ acrylic lens.  210mW after acrylic, from only 170mA would be even more than my 8X puts out.  I did not measure the current.  I certainly can.  I just would require that both the seller and the buyer agree to me pulling it apart and hooking up the DMM.

I would say it more likely the other way round.  Others besides me have had these diodes fail above 200mA

Rkcstr has both my and Jays' diodes now.  He's going to take some macro's of them.  Hopefully there will be some visible difference in the diodes.

Peace,
dave

I ran this diode for 20 minutes last night, two minutes on and about a minute off, and it's still doing just fine. Lots of power!!  :D

Did you feel the rush of adrenaline each time you powered it up :P?

Haha actually not too much.... for some reason I think this diode is going to be just fine. I just have a gut feeling about these diodes. Mine is at exactly 198mA and is putting out almost exactly 240mW into an aixiz acrylic lens. I mean, even if we had to turn these 'down'. It will probably do 200mW @ 150mA, which is an awesome power:current ratio.

OH another thing I noticed is that my diode seems to be a shorter wavelength than 405nm. The scatter from a 120mW PHR laser I have here is a vibrant violet color, whereas the scatter from this laser, pointed at the EXACT same spot, seems more like a dull or pale violet, and doesn't look as bright.

Bottom line is we dont know enough about these guys yet to really say anything. More people need to buy them so we can get some numbers. I've seen less then 5 test results posted so far. I have another sled that I'll be testing as well  8-)

EDIT: I thought I would add that after about 34 minutes total runtime now, the power is still right at 240mW 8-)

i just sent rkcstr 4 of them and i have about 5-8 left 8-) so we will have more results soon

Well, at least it sounds like a few of you did receive some good ones.

Both of mine didn't last.
My first one was set at 180mA and it died with about 5 min of run time. :( I only allowed it to stay on for 30 seconds at the most.

My second one died almost with in the first 10 seconds of life. The lenses on the diode was broken. >:(

I might venture out and buy one more, but the truth is, I don't want to. I am moving on to the O-LIKE / Nichia diode.

Excel spreadsheet of my diodes' performance is going to come this evening, currently got 3.64V at 31mA, with it's output too low to measure accurately. Does this (albeit early) measurement fit with anyone else's expectations?

31mA may be below threshold. It that's below threshold, then it gives no indication of how the laser behaves. Anybody got a threshold current number on your diodes handy? I don't remember any off the top of my head, except a PHR which I seem to remember being around 25-30mA at threshold.

How do you define threshold? At 31mA it was just-about producing light, in a coherent beam, but it was barely visible.

Threshold is the line between lasing and not lasing. If you have the ability, start at 0 current (or anywhere that is definitely below threshold), and turn up the current very slowly. You'll see an instantaneous jump where it goes basically from a very dim LED (like when a laser diode is broken) to being a laser, you'll be able to see it, especially on a power meter.

If there's a beam, or speckle, or anything that signals coherent light, then it's above threshold, but maybe only slightly. If it's just very dim light that's not coherent, it's below threshold.

Close to two hours runtime now, again in two minute intervals one minute apart.

Still 240mW.

I think the REAL issue here is the condition of the sleds. Since some are VERY beat up, the diodes could have EASILY sustained damage. I have a feeling that the diodes that are 'lasting' are the ones that maybe escaped the hammer :P
