GB: 1W 520nm diode information/giveaway

3 months ago. If i were the tester, i would hope that my name doesn't get shared, cause frankly, this is embarrassing.

Two months actually - The postal system took a month getting the diode to the tester.

I'd have praferred if the laser had been pushed to the extreme until it died - in fact I think I said this back then :P

I agree, but a giveaway was the only way to raise the money. I don't think we would've been able to get so much otherwise.

Id rep you if i could. This is a very good suggestion, and i am in favor of it.

Thanks - it just seemed like a good a simple all around solution - it keeps the peace / keeps participants from getting carried away with speculation / keeps ARG from getting flak from the forum or the vet who has the diode.

I'm not an old man but I'm old enough to have jumped to wrong conclusions more times than I care to admit. After enough embarrasment you eventually learn to rethink things before making conclusions from assumptions, and the extreme decisions that often follow. Having an 8% stake in this diode I am not very pleased about our current situation either. Regardless of this I don't have a stomach for character assassination with what's known at this time. ARG's is not in question and neither should his choice of tester be until we know more. I find it very difficult to believe a veteran forum member selected by ARG and with the knowledge and tools to do these tests had any premeditated Ill intent. Maybe There is a family emergency or worse, he found his wife in bed with another man and went on a month long drinking spree. Who knows. I think that before our veteran receives a threat of any kind more attempts at determining what's going on should be made. Yeah, it's been a while but, I personally know what it is like to get so caught up with things that someone else's project I've involved myself with as a favor becomes a non-priority. I say give this guy a little more time to come around. If he quits responding then maybe an attempt to locate his whereabouts and determine his well being should be taken. ARG has his address unless the diode was sent to a PO. Even then he could be located with a little diligence. I would add my two other cents to the pot and say, if ARG does reach him a deadline needs to be set, and if he cannot meet it he should send it back immediately. CDBEAM and a handful of other trustworthy members here could take care of the final details of data collection.

Reactions: ARG
I sent my $10 as a donation for helping getting more data according this diode. For science, not for the chance winning this diode. I understand the raffle as a nice bonus, not more. Some people here may think differently according their reaction. I don´t see this diode being partially mine in any way.
Getting valueable results often needs hours of observation and testing. The tester is doing it for free in the end. I won´t worry too much here.

Whether it be for the data or the drawing, reasoning for entering this GB is irrelevant, an agreement was made when we put money towards this. This wouldn't even be an issue if there was good communication from the tester through ARG. The tester seems to be going MIA, bringing up the legit concern that a +$700 diode will be stolen from the forum, I'm not holding out much hope of actually having this diode for myself but not seeing it go to anyone is a problem.

Got in touch with the tester. No results, but the diode will be on its way back to me.

WOW...What a Soap Opera !!!...OK...Perhaps....just perhaps....I got a LITTLE over the top....But...ya know....I know what kinda time we are talking about to do some comparative lens testing....and do an with/without A-Prisms test.....

Maybe...maybe....tops....4hrs of dick'en around !!!....and maybe LESS...Not sure !!!

Duke said it....It IS about the communication thing.....Yikes...how LONG does THAT take !!...2 minutes !!!

The lack of communication.....coupled with the extreme time delay....AND the added Wild Card of an " UNKNOWN " tester....ALL this mixes and swirls around into a BAD MIX !!!
Well....at least it does for me....

I am not saying that life cannot get in the way of GOOD INTENTIONS...It CAN...and it DOES.....But then....a reasonable person sez....hey....I gotta problem....I cannot DO...what I said I would DO....so....." WHAT do you want to DO ??? "....." How would the group like me to proceede ?????? "....

Personally....I know what the slope efficiency is...IIRC....the best lens to date is the G2....
thanx to the efforts of ARG and Trent...and DTR.....What I remain curious about is ....How does a set of Anamorphics correct this thing ????

I suppose it depends on your ....er....ah...point of view !!! The spot....at 25'....maybe looks like a little bar...LOOKS GOOD....at 50'.....well....it is longer bar.....but WTH.....IT still looks OK.....at 100'....well...looks like an even longer bar......but....I REALLY cannot determine beam geometry...THAT far away....WHO CARES !!!

I predict....that with a set of A-prism's...
25' = spot
50' = maybe looks like a little bar
100' = Still ,Who cares hahaha

SO.....Pass the Popcorn !!!

I forgot all about this thread ^^

Euhmmm, ok no results ...

My view...

It looks better if not darn close to a m140...... (we took it as it is)
Better then a Mitsu 500... ( we got better results with optics)

What is it that we didn't know yet ¿ what could have be done with the M140.

Next on my list... laser range finder..

ARG you have done your job and given us exactly what we wanted for this Information/Giveaway. From now on we might just have to do murder funding if people are getting this angry about the giveaway. One suggestion though would be to just get the drawing over with that way you only have one person who can be upset it's taking longer then expected.

I think you definitely want to keep the winner undrawn until testing is done. ARG has talked about this several times before.

Dont want someone hounding over the testing process, saying things like "be careful with MY diode"

Took a month to get there, going to take at least 3 weeks to get back :p

Here are the bare FACTS.... as mined from this thread.....

Date---------- Action---------- Post#

12.13.2013--- Group Buy/Project started--- 1
12.24.2013--- All funds collected for GB--- 97
1.18.2014--- Good source located and Paypal sent to DTR for LD--- 189
2.1.2014--- LD arrives to ARG for testing--- 210
2.1.2014--- LD Test data results posted by ARG--- 229
2.10.2014--- LD sent to " Mystery Tester" for optical tests--- 294
3.4.2014--- ARG questions tester on results--- 314
3.20.2014--- LD finally arrives to Tester--- 330
4.19.2014--- ARG sez tester is testing, no results yet--- 350
5.14.2014--- ARG sez testing not done and returning LD to ARG--- 392

WOW......Whata Saga.....by the time Canadian Post gets this LD back to ARG....likely 4 months will have passed !!! LAMO !!! YAWN !!!!!!! HAHA !!

To me....BOTH the Canadian Post and the " Mystery Tester"....are a BAD joke.....and the " Mystery Tester" should be exposed to the "Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator"... !!!!! HAHAHAHA !!!
