He T_J, for $180 including free shipping the Arctic was an ok deal for me. Everybody was able to remove Steve´s semen out of the lasers head in 15minutes. The 150mW power lost through the extra lense glass was strange of course.

For $300 + shipping I won´t buy it again.

I don´t know why MojoLA defends WL that much in all his posts
At least WL fail why their lies, their cheap worthless shitty goggles, more than with the Arctic itself.

I didn´t mention it cause electron´s WL batt was the first and only one which explode what I´ve read. For sure they´re cheap and crappy, but IMO the WL "safety" goggles are the much bigger issue.

Go ahead and laugh, but I did order an arctic back in July, just as I was just starting out to learn about lasers. I've always thought they were cool (just par for the course when you're a sic fi nerd I guess) and all the "light saber" hub bub pushed it over the edge for me.

It may not be the best laser money can buy, but it IS cool, it DOES look like a light saber and if WL is forced to stop making them (more from a public safety standpoint than a Lucas Film thing) it might be worth something one day.

So I ordered it and they tell me it's shipping on the 3Rd.

And look, despite the negative attitude of all the people who DONT have one, every review i've seen has been fairly favorable...

In any case, arctic aside, i'd still love to buy a few pieces from my fellow Angelinos, so speak up!

This post should be a sticky T_J. I hate it that so many people come to LPF only for the Arctic.

I forget what the "name" of the mental process is, but it is the opposite of "buyer's remorse."

He has already purchased the laser. His sub-conscious mind MUST rationalize how/why it was the right decision or admit he made a mistake.

The human mind does NOT like to admit when it has made a mistake. Therefore, he defends his decision even though he has no data with which to support that decision AND there is a plethora of data negating his decision.

Besides, maybe he will get lucky or his standards are lower than ours.

After all . . . I only had to tune-up or repair three out of the three I've had. Maybe he will get the fourth of three :tinfoil:

Peace,
dave

Ok well maybe I'll get lucky and my Arctic won't totally suck. But hey look at the bright side - all the publicity around that sucker has probably introduced a lot of new people to the world of the laser hobbyist, so expanding the universe can't be all bad, right?

Aside from the onslaught of threads called "help a n00b - what's the best cheap laser that will cut through anything for under $100??"

And no matter how you slice it (heh hen) the Arctic's host is really cool. If i end up with a laser that looks like a light saber and has a bright, visible beam and it doesn't explode on me then I'll feel like I got my money's worth.

In the meantime, I'm sure all of you will help school me on the ins and outs of "real" lasers.

And hopefully one of you will be local and get back to me! My money is burning a hole in my pocket!

Oh, the puns are endless...

well T_J, you got 3 months till the bomb arrives, then customs might confiscate it, and if that doesn't happen chances are the bomb will fail to detonate.

It is a cool host. I hope you get a good one too.

The publicity is a double sided coin. On the other side of the coin the publicity has brought government attention to the hobby. It has also poisoned a lot of peoples minds into fearing it. Rightfully so, because it is a very powerful laser. But it makes lasers in general look bad.

I believe you are thinking of these, Dave:

Apparently the worst thing that can happen if I don't like the Arctic is I can sell it here in about an hour, most likely for more than I paid for it.

Personally, *IF* WL is forced to change anything and *IF* they are forced to discontinue selling the Arctic because of all the negative press about the dangers, I think it's going to be worth something one day...

After my expirience with WL I doubt that I will ever do business with them ever again, I ordered June 19th and canceled Aug 24th. A guy I know got his and it lasted just little over a day and quit. Now they don't respond to any of his messages. So all I can say is good luck!
