The diode is "multimode" (there are different kinds of multimode).
The rectangular or bar shaped output is characteristic of multimode laser diodes.
The multi-element lens does make for better divergence and a shorter "line" at a distance compared to a single element aspheric.
Yes, I understand that. Also, do the multiple elements cut off part of the LD output or do they actually help with the divergence?
