I don't own a TV either, everything I need to watch can be watched on the internet. News, entertainment, movies. The only thing is I don't get live TV, but the only thing I watch live is the olympic games, and they have streaming for that.

Me either.

But got a projector :)

The Optoma 131x. I just use it for watching films (2-3 / month) and for playing PS3 games.


I´m looking forward to the PS4. My projector is good at least for the next 3years. Full HD and very awesome 3D. Paid $800 and it´s much nicer than the $2000 55" Samsung LED a friend of mine has :D
 
I got a 720p 50" plasma which is getting a bit long in the tooth now, might be time for an upgrade :)
 
Regarding content, I think you're going to start seeing 4K/8K content offered by folks such as Netflix, etc, and other streaming services, more readily than before. (You're also going to be able to download it to your tablet or mobile device and plug it directly into your 8K TV. Trust me, I work in the chip industry that makes this stuff.) :)

The makers of these UHD systems know people aren't going to upgrade until there's a reason to (i.e., sufficient content). Because we live in a slightly different age however, I think you'll see it rolled out faster than HD content was for HD systems.

I hope you're right, but again, part of the problem is a lot of great shows simply don't exist in high resolution, due to when they were made/released.

It only doubles the resolution.. Not to 4k.. Trust me. I never use it. I watched the 4k movies that came on the player and it was... well... pretty good. But to be honest i haven't really used it since.

And InfinitusEquitas, the hardware inside does actually make it 2160.. It doesn't just multiply the pixels. There is some crazy processing going on in there!

Sorta like Dave, I have not had television service in over 4 years. I do own a TV, but I rarely use it. Once in a blue moon, the Mrs. and I will watch a movie via streaming over the top IP content (Amazon Instant Video or Netflix), but 90% of the time it stays powered off. I dig tech and I think the ability to view UHDTV is cool, but I'm SOooooo not their target demographic.

It's the commercials. They drive me insane, and led me to drop cable years ago.

I was at my brother's not long ago, and he does have regular TV's and service.

Couldn't stand watching anything, and was on netflix within 15 minutes.

There are literally CONSTANT, LONG, LOUD, STUPID commericals. After having gotten used to watching shows without commercials, I really don't understand how people do it.

I mean the typical half hour slot is filled by shows that run only ~20 minutes. If there is an intro, you're lucky to get 19 minutes of what you've actually sad down to watch.

Want to watch an episode of something that's an hour long? No problem, sit through 17-20 minutes of commercial breaks.

I don't have any delusions about he value of my time, but neither do I want to simply waste my time being bombarded with ads for things I'll likely never need, or want. It's beyond me that people are willing to sit there zombified for a third of the time.

Good to know TonyT :beer: , I think DJNY's projector is sounding pretty good and it has 3d :D

No probs,

I used to have a 1080 3D projector and don't get me wrong.. It was great having a 92inch screen on wall.. But, it really wasn't the same.. I really prefer my LG over it.. And for that point over the 4K as well for the moment.. TV look's a little worse on the 4k! I know that sounds weird but it does! BRays admittedly look better because of the up scaling.. But the LG is still my everyday TV. Maybe in a year or so the 4K will appeal more to me when there is actual 4K content..

I'm fine with a $300 flat screen. HDMI input and I'm good. No room for anything bigger really.

I just don't understand it. After a point, the resolution is just a wank number. If your pixel is 0.2mm and it's on the other side of the room like in most homes I've been to... How is that going to be better than a pixel that's 1mm? At what point does the resolution of a TV exceed the resolution of the eye? I don't have vision like the Hubbel for rod's sake.
 
Reminds me of the retina display. Does the eye even see the difference? Bragging rights I suppose.

Yup. You need to be fairly close to the screen in order to appreciate the difference.

I own a Lg 3D tv 42" it's pretty good actually. Not so good colors but works fine! It was when 3D TV's released :D 2000€+

"Now" I'm thinking to get 3D projector with the PS4. It'll be awesome :D
