Yeah the blue metallic + sun on the fender flares almost look fake XD

There is plenty of space here for some
sweet 160m, so it's a bit frustrating. At
least I can build something to listen in
the meantime. Anything digital interests
me as long as the information is useful in
some way. I have been picking up some
local AX.25 traffic from APRS stations for
the past week or two.

been looking at some iCOM uinits as a first
general purpose base station transceiver.

I also made a halo antenna hoping to get
some better reception, but reception was
not that great. The length is a bit off
and I haven't tried the tuning cap yet. I
also tried a 6m delta loop made from magnet
wire, both horizontal and vertical, but did
not receive anything at all, not even
interference. I'm thinking this radio just
does not work below 2m.

Thanks, glad you appreciate the setup! A multiband antenna might do some good, rather than having 4 antennas on there. (FM Broadcast, 2m, 10m, 20m). Some of the HF digital modes are rather interesting - I'm a fan of PSK31 and JT65 myself.

I take it you're looking for a HF/VHF base station transceiver? ICOM, Yaesu or Kenwood are decent choices - I have an ICOM-718 in the truck, hasn't let me down, although it's HF only. If you're looking for a HF/VHF unit the Yaesu FT-897D is quite nice. All depends on your budget really.

Might have better luck receiving with a better handheld - I've had a decent experience with my Baofeng UV-5R and Nagoya antenna - even inside my apartment. Although that's 2m/70cm so won't go down to 6m without an upconverter... Again, Kenwood, ICOM and Yaesu are good options for a higher end handheld.

Took this photo about 20 years ago of a Motorola Quarter Kilowatt VHF RF Power Amplifier I modified, took out the small conduction cool tubes and replaced with two 3CX1500A7 tubes, that baby would put out so much power I was hearing echo's off the moon using it, really:

Weekend creation - Multiplexed 4 Digit VFD Real time clock .

Power draw is around 7mA @ 9.5V to display , each digit is refreshed every 5mS , 11 NPN/PNP Level shifters , arduino drives grids , 595 shift register dose the 7 segments .

Took a bit of time to figure out my dads Nikon 5200D camera. This is one of the photos I took from my Dragon Lasers 532nm 200mW.

Finally got the leadlight hosts I ordered from laser66 today, and while the gold pens look like utter shite, the chrome's are OK, so I threw a 445 @~1A (blitzlinear) with an indicator LED in one. Absolutely loving it! But I may sell it, as i already have a 445 chrome pen--doesn't have an indicator LED, but it was the first high power pen I made, so I don't think I will get rid of it.

More or less what the internals look like. I say more or less, because I wired it up, took this pic, realized the wiring was wrong, redid it--only to realize I redid it exactly how it was. Then the LED died, then the resistor broke...put a new LED&resistor in, changed the wiring (and AGAIN did it the exact same). So many "duh" moments.

I realize now how blurry the pic is. My phone (GS4) is really bad with pics, you hit the button and it takes about a second for it to actually capture, so any slight movements blur it like mad.

I still like that first pic spaz, I like how the camera makes the 445 look decidedly purple/white, like how IR would show up on a lower-quality camera.

Trend - Get rid of everything except for the "IDg-ne7t-4s" part.

I have a leadlight with a 405 in from years ago. The host itself is over 10 years old. I miss the ones that didn't have the LED indicator.
