I think jay made that collar for the smaller package diode.

Very impressive. I hope it won't be long before single-mode 445 nm and 520 nm diodes reach similar powers!

Man I need one if these for my zasers. Wow, this has been a great time to be a laser addict :p

Just reporting back running a x drive CG @700mA was too much for my diode it fried out after just 2 clicks I think we need to recognize what Angelos is trying to tell us ramping up is a wold better for these really sensitive diodes. I'm into a really challenging build and might need to think aabout some things?

Is a soft start enough to ease it into 700ma? Or is that even too rapidly escalating?

That driver has the soft start feature. One though was to use the x boost with a serious incremental climb to one set current. I think the best way to handle it is to listen to Angelos he has said only because he's tested many of these is to stick at the 550mA at their present price it's to risky to wait for the freak to come along. Jordan's test show what they can do, but the PSU ramps up as apposed to a cold start jump to 700mA that's a lot of current remember the average 12X was very happy @400mA we run them 450 and up then your running into over driving them more than earlier we went from a 4x to a 6x to a 8x 12x fact is those were only small increments. In retrospect we are really driving from a 4x to 6x was only like 50mA max so I believe when I look at one of my 12x builds over 800mA it truly gives a new meaning to the term overdriven. That's like running a m-140 AT almost 4A.

One questions you set the build up with a contentious ground and a standard X-drive or you got the specific X-drive that can be run with a continuous ground from Angelos? Just making sure as most X-drives can not be run with continuous ground except a special orders of a modified version of the X-drive to be able to.

2 CG x drives that's all I really care to use anymore.

So how are we supposed to slowly work a diode up to a high current for every use? With a pot controlled labby/PJ, that may be easy to do. However, if even soft-start drivers aren't cutting, what other options do we currently have?

As far as my order, still waiting on it ... It's been 16 days now.

EDIT: I checked my bank statement, it apparently never went through :o

Ordering through Newegg now :)

You could find a SMD size NTC inrush limit resistor that has a very high cold-state resistance [hard to find!] and place it in series with the diode.

Do you plan to sell this diodes on your site, Jordan?

Yep got some sleds from ebay as testers but there were not the 209 sleds they claimed. They were 207 or 208 sleds with metal frames not the plastic pictured(which happened to be my pictures which they snagged as their own), It also had a 3.8mm red not the flat this one did and the bluray diodes were not better than the S06J. They were banking on the hope they were the same diodes.:(

I am working with another supplier to try to get some and have some samples on the way but they are not cheap. The problem with sleds is the drive is so new. As soon as I find a good source I will have them for sale. Hopefully will have some news soon.

I'm in the middle of a 16x build. I'm running a flexdrive set at 666ma. Seriously, that's really what I set it at. :) It's been powered up a few times and seems to be doing OK. It LPM's at 942.2 . I'm so tempted to bump it up just a tad to hit 1w . Think I'll leave it be. It seems to be happy set where it's at. Hopefully it will live and I get to post pics of it finished :)

So what your saying is don't purchase this sled from Techhood on ebay?

These are not the diodes you're looking for.....
