PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

He said it's a direct green diode with no conversion from IR, which means he knows what he's talking about. That makes him a scammer.

One of my optoelectronics professors was shocked when I told him this cheap 5mW green was a DPSS laser. He simply couldn't believe a DPSS green with aligned optics could be fit so small, stay solid, and cost under $10. He assumed a laser under $10 MUST be a direct diode... Obviously he was wrong.

All I am saying is, even if someone knows what a DPSS is, doesn't mean they know everything. Clearly this seller may be ignorant, but that doesn't mean he's a scammer. I'm sure the Vega he sold was an actual Vega. And his prices aren't inflated by hundreds of %s. I am not trying to say people should buy from him, but I am simply saying that it is a bit harsh to call him a scammer.

And if someone actually did purchase this knowing what a direct green diode is and how much they usually cost, then they are no better than a newb purchasing a "300mW Green laser" for only "$50" from a DX type of website, and then seeing it is <100mW.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I sent him a message saying if he didn't change his lies that I would report his post. He replied simply, "k, bye."

Now he has removed the listing :na:

Good for you and everyone else. :banned:+1

Sure he doesn't have to know everything but he has the laser in hands and if he knows what DPSS is it shouldn't be hard to figure it out. Not to mention he shouldn't advertise as direct diode if he isn't sure. And reslist it after it's beeen deleted.

As for DX lasers, I've also received my share of overspecs from them, they just quote manufacturer ratings and don't measure the lasers at all. I agree they should be more careful but selling underspec/overspec lasers unfortunately is very common and even somewhat "accepted". Not to mention the stuff is still cheap even for the real power.

But yeah, whoever buys that laser is a noob :/

These might be of interest to some people here:

650nm 5mW Laser in New Wish Host

They say they're 5mW, but for only $8 ($3 + $5 shipping), I say it might be worth the chance of getting some overspec ones. It's today only, though, so a guinea pig wouldn't really work here... I'm going to buy a few, regardless, and if it turns out that they're 1mW, I'll just give them away to my friends, but if they're overspec, I might just put them in a better looking host. Does anyone else find those New Wish hosts unattractive?

Reds aren't overspec. Like... pretty much never. All the "5mW" reds I've seen were 3mW or less. They don't have a driver, and are available elsewhere for much cheaper.

However, for just a couple dollars more, you can get a rather unique 635nm pointer.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I'm sure those greens would be at spec if it were economical to do so. The same thing with those blues and violets, though that's more if it were possible in the first place. Reds, yeah, they're easy to make at spec, and cheap too. They don't even need canned diodes, just some laser diode fixed to some cheap PCB with a lens in front.

I don't think I'd even get that red for the case. Even those violet Newwish style laser pointers use the cheap metal case rather than the thick metal case that was nice in the old green laser Newwish pointers. I bet the red case is just as cheap, or cheaper than the violet Newwish pointers.

The guys over in this thread are getting overspec reds at around 100mW: http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/amazon-pointer-3-pack-red-green-violet-72932.html

Most of the Wal-Mart 5mW reds I've seen are actually 1mW, but there's always a chance that this manufacturer likes to make their lasers powerful.

Oh, and I have a 635nm from Laserglow that's shipping (see signature below). :)

i have a lot of overspec purples. Those are always overspec ;)

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Mr. Scammy Scam is at it again. This time, he's selling a Laserglow Vega. This could be legitimate, but it's too good of a price: $250 Buy It Now. It's missing the remote connector switch (the plug in the back of the tailcap for FDA approval). No returns accepted. If you're willing to risk $250, you could wind up with an amazing yellow laser.

Laserglow Vega | eBay

Edit: The reason I'm skeptical about this one is that he has already sold a Vega. Who just has two Vegas lying around? I mean, I'm sure you'll get a laser, but who is to say it'll start lasing when you turn it on?

Wow great find if the laser is legit. I am missing the yellow laser in my rainbow.
