My chemistry teacher ordered a 3 pack of lasers off amazon.

They seemed a bit bright so I offered to bring them home and meter them.

Let's see how they did. First up, the 405nm:

With an average power of around 60mW, it is 12 times the rated power.

Next up, the 532nm:

At 75mW, the green is 15 times the rated power.

Finally, the 650nm:

This beast clocked in at 110mW, 22 times the rated power. (sorry for the weird scale)

I expected the violet would be be overspec but the red and the green caught me by surprise.
 





This just goes to show how the 5mw rule about being eye safe is not a good rule. It is looking like ALL the 5mw lasers are WAY overspec.

Yeah I've had friends who got 1mW(only legal handheld power) sent here and they always got confiscated...

It's funny.. if you buy a super cheap "5mw" laser you can actually get a 75mw laser.
If you buy a cheap "75mw" laser you can end up with a 25mw laser.
 
Nice find. I might have to play that Lotto!!!

I've got to get my DIY LPM up and running I want to see what my lasers are really doing.
 
The price per mw is ridiculous. Anyone else buy that pack? You almost pay that much for the red alone...

The red one is truely amazing that they would use a diode that powerful rather
than the typical 5mW diode you get in key chain lasers or stock aixiz modules.

A couple weeks ago i bought one of their (same retailer on amazon) 405nm lasers,
and when focused externally it does burn stuff.
 
Thats a great deal.. So instead of buying a 50mW green module for $20 just buy these three, extract the green module if u like or keep it that way..
 
God to know, thanks. I was just about to give some "5mw" laser to my nephews to play with.
 
Too bad they don't ship outside the USA. If other peoples' reviews are just as positive, would anyone be willing to forward a pack to Europe? :beer:

Isn't shipping to Europe another $20?? IMO it's better to get a $45 laser from sites like o-like and rayfoss :P
