PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

wow! that would fire up a long red tube. i think it's a bit much for these greens.

They're constant-current, aren't they?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I think so. I am just afraid that the start-up voltage may be too high.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

The startup voltage shouldn't matter. It won't rise beyond the break-down voltage of the gas anyway.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

So can we agree that it should be safe for these?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Well that's the thing. I don't see why not. But attempt at your own risk. :na:

i got the numbers from sam's faq for this specific tube. not sure what ~1kV extra does. but if dave sent it to you i would say it's gonna work just fine. and you could power a bigger tube (like a looong red one) in the future.

Noted!

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

41,388 hours of runtime? There's the problem. That thing has been lasing for nearly five years straight! I wonder what sort of application requires a 325nm laser to be operating for that long.

Edit:
I took a look at the specs for Melles Griot's HeCd lasers on their site, and they said that you have to have the run these lasers for 24 hours every two weeks to avoid degradation. That's probably why this one has a high amount of operating time. I couldn't find anything on this specific model, but from what I found, their UV HeCd lasers have a maximum expected lifetime of 50,000 hours. I think this one is standing on its last leg.

Have you purchased from that site before? Can it be trusted?

I haven't personally, but some have over at BLF and have had okay experiences.

Here's the thread about the 50% off sale:

Worth a shot, in my opinion. :D

Cheers!

Wow, they have a 1W 445nm for 60 bucks... But I'm not sure I have the will to wake up in the middle of the night just to find the server overloaded or down.

"Use the coupon code immediately after order completion to see if you have won 50% OFF. "
"Only the first 200 qualifying orders will win 50% OFF. "

Yeah, right. DX might be no scammer but they do have their share of motherf*** business practices.

Couldn't resist and tried the Dx thing anyways - left my shopping cart at exactly 100 and as soon as the clock hit 23:00 (1am on their time) I applied the coupon. Got a server unavabilable page. The whole DX site was working as usual and hadn't even slowed down. Just the apply coupon button refused to work.
Tried again an now they say it's already been used 200 times.

There's absolutely no reasonable motive for just that button to stop working. The sale was rigged.

This kind of thing makes me *really* want to stop buying from them. But in the end I won't cause I'd have to pay a lot more elsewhere.... damn
