New 9mm 445 diodes

A 4A boost driver will drain one 3.7V IMR battery in minutes. We need a more beefier power source or multiple parallel batteries. Or batteries in series with a buck driver.

Does the projector only has one 9mm laserdiode ?

There is a very nice 4 Amp hand held with plenty of heatsinking, run time/battery supply here:

Even at 4 Amps, you would have about 1 1/2 hours run time between charges using Feilong 6000mAh 32650's.

And at 2 Amps, you would have about 3 hours run time...

Hey guys I just woke up after a good 3 hours sleep.:tired:

I have to run to a family engagement this morning but I will post up some more info when I get back this afternoon.

Thanks Jordan, we appreciate your research and updates!

@ DTR:

If the Aixiz lenses bottom out too early, why not take the lenses out and reverse them in the brass mount? You should be able to get a couple millimeters closer. I have done this before with IR diodes.

Yes, that is one reason why I mount my 405-G-1 'inverted'...

To get the lens closer to the bottom of the nut.

But another reason, is to be able to enlarge the entry aperture to the lens, and allow more light from the diode to get into the lens.

This requires a lot more work for the mounting of the lenses...

Also Another Tip Guys. I would recommend making your 9mm modules a little longer.

As if you make them the same length as the top half of an Aixiz Module the lens is going to stick out pretty far due to the Diodes Can coming so far into the Module.

I would add 3-4mm in length to the Module.

A Regular Aixiz Top half Module is 11mm.

Iam going to make mine 14-15mm in Length.

I had this problem with the lens sticking out to far when i modded a stock Aixiz Module into a 9mm module for my 670nm 9mm diode pen build i did. I ended Up making my own custom module after that was 14mm and it was perfect.:) If I dint. The Lens only screwed in 2 full turns before it was focused.

Hope this Helps.:)

Yep for sure, because the can is taller than a 5.6mm diode...

I had the same experience when I made a custom module for a 9mm IR diode.

Given that the datasheet shows an operating current of 1.6 Amps...

.. I'll personally be comfortable with driving them consistently over 2A.

Good Deal Jay.:) Just wanted to make sure i mentioned it if any of the other machinist are making there own to.

DO you have a specific length you are going to use.? I cant decided between 14mm & 15mm.?

I was going to experiment to find the perfect length...

The press fit area will also need to be deeper than a 5.6mm diode I'm guessing.

I'm pretty sure that the diode case is thicker than a 5.6mm diode case, but I'll know for sure when my diode gets here!

Good Deal. I had good luck at 14mm.:)

What is the divergence of this diode? Worse than the 5.6mm 445's? The same?

All the testing that has been done has been posted here.

He just harvested these yesterday afternoon

I'm sure more info will be forthcoming ;)

Peace,

For wire bond measurement, I ran across some awesome micro photographs of a 658nm open can diode. Anyone remember the thread? The photos were taken on a digital microscope with depth of field adjustment- I think during multiple exposures. Guy was in NE USA , I think. Anyway, he discussed sizes of the die of red diode so I'm sure the bond wire could easily be measured.

Nice find JR!
If you have one of my 10.5mm low cost module housings with the glass lens, it has an M9 thread. Open it up to 9mm and you may be set. (Not sure if you have a lathe). Otherwise I'll have units with 9mm diode pockets arriving soon.

Yeah, my post was meant as a suggestion/reminder for dtr and the others that paid for a share to test the divergence..

Here is a comparison shot. Apart from a minute focus difference looks to be about the same.
