New 3.8mm red Diodes on the Block.

Hey All,

ROUND 2 IN NOW OPEN.....

Same Deal,Rules & Disclaimer as Round 1 Just Read the OP. This will be a Strictly 50pcs Order. Once we Hit 50pcs it will be CLOSED. I gave enough updates for everyone to hopefully see it a head of time that it was coming.:)

Please NO Pm's. Post how many you want in the GroupBuy thread NOT HERE and Ill add you to the List. Thank You.:)

I will be stepping out shortly so When I come Back I will Update the List. If we Hit 50pcs before I come Back Just note that I will start from the First post after this one and go down adding those who post first to the list.

The List is On Post #2:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f55/c...odes-660nm-sending-pms-73842.html#post1066262

If a Spreadsheet is Created please DO not Change anything On it. I will do all that. It got Very Confusing last time So Leave it up to me to change it or Mitch.:)

GO Here to Post how many you want and be added to the List:

Thank You.

Again Do not post in this thread how many you want. You will be Missed. GO to the GroupBuy thread link above in this post and CLick it. THis will bring you where you need to go:)

that's it. there was a gb on these a few weeks ago where they were much cheaper. i think rhd may still have some aluminum ones.

I don't think you want to boost reds.

i was hoping to supply the driver with less voltage than the diode requires. maybe a 1.5v cell? i just want to put this new diode into single cell builds. i have a flex already set to 800ma for my first build. i'm gonna gut my 635 mitsu diode from the host and use it for the new red. but after that, well......i need a buck driver.

Took some Beam shot videos for you all.:)

There Is NO Difference that I can Measure in Divergence then a stander 5.6mm LPC-826 diode.

The Larger beam is due to the Glow Around the Beam with the FOG.

Iam About 35 feet away from the Aperture.

Ill try to get some More Video up.

But there really is No Diffrence.

Still impressive beam of the red laser. I can't wait to build my Class IV red laser.

I can do a couple more if it will help move things along. Is there a separate post letting people know about round two in the general forum?

I noticed you tested with an aspheric.. Have you ried an aixiz glass?
If so, was that line still showing in the dot?

Hmm. To piggyback off a couple earlier posts what driver do you guys plan on using? Now that Moh is stepping away from his shop I'm not sure where the heck to get a driver. Cajun has a pretty decent selection but nothing in the 700-750mA range. I could roll my own but I've only done basic LM317 based drivers which are far from compact or efficient.
There's always the flex drive but it seems recently it takes forever and a year for them to get shipped.

@Blord it for sure is Nice to see it that Tight.

Iam Almost at the Point to say the tight part of the beam is Brighter then my 1W 650nm build.:scared:

If the GB starts to slow down Not sure what to do.

We need 25 more diodes to go.....

The Lines On this Diode Show Up Brighter then an a LPC like i mentioned. This Is Probably due to being a Brighter diode.

With an Aixiz Lens The Lines are Still there But a Little Faded and a little clipped.

With the Asphiric lens the Lines are Noticeable For sure.

The lines are a longer too.

Its tough to say which driver now.

Flex drives are out of stock an probably wont be in for a couple months.

I would Recommend the Ghost-Drive if it can do 800mA.? Thats a pretty good driver for its sizes. Your going to need a Nice Heatsink anyway so there is Enough room to heatsink that little driver. Not sure what it can go up to though.

Ill Keep searching.

Aw man that is really nice! This is going to be my first real experiences building a >100mW red. Going back to a nice classic red color is getting me really excited. How does the beam compare to a green laser?

Using a chart like this:
v_lambda.png

I assume that 650nm is around 12% or so as bright as 535nm. So 12% of around 500mW is 60mW.

What I'm trying to say is pictures can rarely reproduce how the bright it seems in real life. My estimates put it around 500mW red ~= 60mW, how true do you think this is?

Tom has three of these left

Someone correct me if they would not run this diode.

I'm going to try direct drive with a AAA sized 3.7V LiIon. Any thoughts on this?

Looks like a great candidate for direct drive one cell builds because it has very good resistance to fluctuations in current. Someone more knowledgeable feel free to state otherwise.

Thanks for the input. I'm likely going to get one of the guidesman kits from cajunlasers. I've built several lasers in them when moh was selling them. For a mid-sized host they have a pretty hefty heatsink. Unfortunaltely this build is going to have to wait a bit because my 3.8mm modules aren't here yet and I also need to replace the diode in my 445 I got from yobresal a couple years ago first. Wish I knew exactly what happened to it. The driver is still putting out 1.3A. Oh well enough of me derailing this thread.
