I didnt believe it, till I saw it. Submerged PC.






I've seen a few of the other builds I assume he was talking about. Pretty neat things.

What I don't like though, is that you have to find a way to submerge all your hardware(they used a fishtank but I think that looks terrible), and you have to refill it every so often. Oh, and it's mostly passive cooling the way they did it. If I were to simulate it, I would have to use a pump and radiator as they said to keep it much cooler. :D

EDIT: AND everything is covered in mineral oil! How annoying for when you want to change a part, or sell it, or whatever. xD
 
I saw somewhere someone taking their xbox 360 apart and dunking the parts in a fish tank like that - apparently it solved the RROD problems, although I would never be comfortable with my xbox in any liquid.

I have seen this done in a purpose built plexi glass case and beleve it or not the air cooling fans stirred the oil enough to keep it all cooled down, I have never used this style of cooling, but I know mineral oil is what is used in power transformers for tesla coils ;) for cooling.
The disc drives must be located outside of the fish tank or that would be a messy deal :eek:
 
Yeah it says the HD and disk drives are outside the tank. I'd love to build one of these, but it must be heavy as hell.
 
Honestly mineral oil works great not only for HV, but for any application where you want to keep something electronic cooled and insulted. I have a 5 gallon tank of shell diala Ax that I've used for all kinds of electrical projects.
 
Razako is right, lots of oils are great for insulating, and even heatsinking an entire circuit. Lots of CPUs can be overclocked BIG TIME if they are properly submerged.
 
ALright, I'm sorry but someone has to agree that it would be cool to put some mirrors in the tank and flash a laser through it every once a while.
 
Why not buy one of those mini refrigerators for 100 bucks as a case. Overclock as much as you want with that
 
Yeah, it's fun setting up an old shitty PC and pouring oil into it infront of people, their reactions are quite funny :p

The fans wouldn't like pumping oil, but I guess they can't really overheat :p
