I didnt believe it, till I saw it. Submerged PC.

THATS SWEET! I can just see people coming over to your house a tripping over
themselves as they look at a PC submerged in a tank with bubbles. I got a friend
whos real big into building computers, maybe we could put something like this together

Because condensation would form on the warm parts and cause a short.

Pete

Huh? condensation forms on cold parts. That's why your beer can sweats in the summer. Water from the air is inherently very low in solubles.

Water isn't really conductive either; it's usually the ions dissolved in the water that cause conductivity.

Pure water does not stay pure for long. A surface it's sitting on will generally be partially soluble. Even carbon dioxide from the air dissolves in the water and forms carbonic acid and H+ ions (as ben already mentioned I see)

what if you had the CPU under load and it went up in temp. When it cooled back down would the air around it condensate?

No, because it will still be hotter than just about everything else. If the water must condense, it will do it on the coldest surfaces first.

There's a few of these builds on youtube, they're cool but messy and you wouldn't be able to move your parts back into a normal case without a lot of cleaning.

Alcohol cleans oil well, but would it damage components?

No kidding? I did not know that. I think I missed that in science class. I was always taught wet things, and electricity did not mix well.

Hey

In some arc lamp pumed yag lasers DI water is used to cool the lamps as the water comes in contact with the lamp electods/connections DI water is used as it has very low conductivity . As said above the water dosent saty pure for long so the cooling system/filtering has a bit the re cleans the water and removes ions and thing befor it goes pased the rod and lamps again

@crazy jay: one of those little fridges? the ones that use TEC cooling? Do you really think those fridges can cool faster than the CPU heats?

I've seen this done using a 15 gallon aquarium. All the drives hung over the edge. Oil is a better conductor of heat than air.

HMike

Why not buy one of those mini refrigerators for 100 bucks as a case. Overclock as much as you want with that
Those little fridges will not work to cool a pc.
The reason being those things like lasers have a duty cycle, they are not meant to run 24/7. they come on for a few min then off.
If you ran a pc inside one it would not be able to keep up, so one of two things will happen.
The fridge will fail to cool and your cpu will fry or the fridge will try to cool but soon start to fail
The second option might take it a day or a week. Mine took about 3.5 days and was having thermal shutdown on the 3rd day.
As i have used this system of a fish tank and made my own liquid cooling system out of a pump and a cars heater coil and 2 small fans.
If you want the best cooling system, i would recommend using a phase change cooling system.
I got a margarita machine of ebay and modded it for my cpu and it works great.
They are meant to run for very long periods of time even it hot summer days.
i was even able to mod it back for the winter because i had some parties maybe i will post some pics if i put my cpu back to it.

Yeah man pics would be great. I'd love to see that modified margarita machine!

It is nothing special. it looks kinda funny.
1.7 GALLON FROZEN MARGARITA MACHINE MINI MARG ELITE - eBay (item 400109001219 end time Apr-12-10 11:00:58 PDT)
btw not the price i payed, i got mine for about 150$ used from a store going out of business. but you should be able to find similar things on craigs list.
With my pc on the side.
I used to over clock to do 3d renderings but i no longer have a need to oc my cpu from 3.3 to about 6.12ghz.
it makes great icy's.
Its a hard call do i want super pc or icy's...
You know i never thought about it, but i wonder if i can have it do both...

I'd say do both. Have your cake, eat it and have ice cream with it :D

Haha Blu-Ray power baby yeah!

^ effective is debatable.
Depends on how much cooling you need.
For a normal pc it is over kill for a low or mid range performance rig it is doable.
For a high end or professional rig it would fall short.
I think i heard you can stack those to get more power but i am un sure and in the end you still need a fan.
Delta fans are fun to listen to.
