71mW--What do I get If I win? 8-)

Paid.

Quick note to you ARG, Paypal has flagged your account as high risk and wouldn't let me transfer directly from the bank, only through a card. I'm sure that's because of all these gift payments you have received. I recommend that you don't send Will the payment as a gift like he asks, just pay the extra fee yourself. I'm afraid that if you send a large gift payment you might get your account locked up.

Probably be best to go through DTR now so you don't have to worry about the gift payment.

Dang - Thanks for the heads up. I would call up PayPal and explain what is going on but I don't think they would understand

You could just tell them we are pooling together money for a donation, which IS true :p
And if they do ask where or what, at most, you can mention a local science project, which is true as well! :D
I'm guessing 65mW... from DTR's test, it looks like he's discovered the knee of the diode to be around 60mW.

EDIT: :paypal: Looking forward to lots of comprehensive test results!

I should have made a donation button - that would've been a better way to do this.
I know for next time now :)

All the funds are collected :) I'll be forwarding it to DTR. Any excess money will be donated to LPF.

Forwarded the money collected.

Looks like I collected more than necessary  but the funds were collected with the price tag from Will in mind.

251$ collected - 226$ cost means LPF will get a 25$ donation. I'll send this after the diodes arrive as in the event of unexpected import fee's I'll use it to pay for that.

I got mine direct from DTR. I will have to keep testing once I get my setup finished but it looks like my output cap is somewhere around 75-80mW on normal heatsinking.

BTW, that output is with a 3-element. When I do my real tests I'll be using a G2.

That's the one.

I kept pushing further and I found the efficiency wall to be 350mA at 130mW anything over and I started losing output. I believe 300mA for 120mW to be a nice solid max for my diode.

Also, I instantly could tell the diode was not 532nm, it is plainly bluer than that. My roomate saw it and instantly said that it looked like a "much cooler green" than my normal greens even before I told him what it was. Next to a 532nm it looks much bluer and makes the DPSS look ugly yellow-green. Brightness wise at 120mW it appears to be very similar in brightness to my 200mW 532nm. The wavelength held visibly bluer than 532nm all the way up to the efficiency wall as well.

When I make this guy portable I think I am going to set it to 270mA for nice balance of output and longevity.

Wow... That is rather nice! And that's an affordable current to be used with a boost driver too. Makes me wonder why DTR's one seemed to have walled around 70mW...

EDIT: btw are you creating a separate thread to show your build? I'm sure everyone will be interested as we're entering the new era of green diodes!

I plan to once I get more time. Hopefully I get a day off early next week.

I could have just gotten a freak diode for all I know. Based off of DTRs findings its very possible that I did or that he got a dud. Until ARG does testing on both of his we won't have much of a better idea.

I did not want to say anything till others tried but I think my laserbee may have seen better days and with such low powers it may be reading a little low. That is why the one I tested is going to Lazeerer to confirm the power output as from the others that were tested they all did 80mW+.:)
