2.1W "Evil Shadow" 650nm C-Mount Diode build Handheld

Awesome build. Glad that we can get red diodes in that power now, even if they are.amount

Can't wait for the 5A driver. What great breakthrough. Very exciting. Congrats!

Lazereer can you make a driver that will run off of one 26650 battery and provide 4 amps?

These batteries can handle the current. Here

Love it! That was a very detailed process, nice :D

Just a couple of questions Angelos...

I do believe you showed what lens your using from an A-140 projector correct? Here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/testing-new-650nm-660nm-5w-diode-82919-6.html#post1197055

You said 40 to 60mm focal length. Meaning that your lens must be 40 to 60mm from the diode correct?

3 Amps would be ok for a hand held in your opinion?

Thanks! :)

Hey Jay,

-Well i "Used" the lens from an A140 projector from the link you show for just messing around and it worked pretty good but the Lenses i actually use in the builds is this:
Thorlabs - LA1213-A N-BK7 Plano-Convex Lens, Ø1/2", f = 50.0 mm, AR Coating: 350-700 nm

^^^Its more practical for a handheld.:) Plus IMO it gave a better "Dot".

-Yes when i say the FL of the lens if 50mm that means the lens is at infinity at 50mm away from diode. In other words the lens is 50mm away from the diode.

-The diodes are these:

&

You can Purchase them here from DTR:

-Yes 3A is totally OK.:) Thats what iam running it original in this build. With the lens i linked above you will see ~ 2W+ at 3A.

I turned the currant up to 3.8A now in this build and iam getting just over 3W now. LPM Picture are coming.

I think it would be great to see a kit for C-Mounts by you jay.

Nice work you showed on these...

I know it would be really nice with an AMC based driver in a 'stubby' Mag, but man that diode is still really expensive, so I don't know how that will go over...

I'm thinking that the same drivers that I use for my Stubby XML-2 flashiight builds and even in a 2 mode configuration. (med/high)

These:

My custom Mag head would have plenty of room for lens placement:

Plenty of battery with a 6000mAh 32650.

Scratch the voltage monitor to have more room for the diode heatsink...

Or maybe even mount the diode into the main head and then there would still be room for the voltage monitor option.

But again, the main problem is the price tag on those diodes.

I was going to build one for myself until I saw the price! (have to be patient)

Thats what i used.:) Though i would make sure to test it if your not getting one that was made by a forum member. I just dont trust china reflow work....

But RHD said AMC drivers where fine IIRC. Though he said that only at 1.2A. I dont know if it changes with higher currant. But my build is running great.

Hmm.I guess i dont see them as being expensive because i know what such diode sell for since red is one of my favorite WL's i do alot of research on them.

It is Expensive only because most have been spoiled with Pulled diodes that are not new. These are brand new no solder on them.

Though these are IMO Cheap.. For what they are Jay. Iif you compare price of high power red diodes you would see what iam saying. Not to long ago and even now 1W version sold for $500 that are cheap china no name diodes and now they sell for ~250$ still. C-Mount 635nm 500mW sell for $350 and the 1W sell for $550 with FAC.

Though what did you expect these diodes to be at.?

I know not alot of people truly understand what a steel these diodes are until there all gone. If one has done the reserch on such diodes and in and around this WL they would see the price is well bellow avrage cost. AKA Cheap.

Dont be too patient. They are going quick.:)

Hell even 808nm 5W diodes with FAC sell for over 200$.:p

Heck even PL520 are still over 100$ for only 50mW.

You are getting a super high power diode in RED. Thats pretty rare.....

I think i need to do a little post on price comparison with diodes. As this is going over alot of peoples heads and are missing what such a diode really would sell for.

I really think this is going over peoples heads.:undecided:

Just being optimistic, but I'm hoping to see them at half that price by the end of the year...

Why should they fall in price anytime soon? There aren´t any alternatives with NEAR the current price / power around..
