Every once in a while, I give a student an undeserved "C" (instead of the "D" that they earned) just to prevent them from taking my class again.

Peace,
dave

You actually do this so as not to see them again, not for them not to see you again! :D

That's how I got through middle school, no joke. I had one teacher give me straight Cs after I skipped 90% of the classes.

I was angry at a member for making what seemed to me a generalization about people from the South, and I tore into him for it. I was mad at something else at the time, and my frustrations bled through my words into the forum. I almost immediately regretted the tirade, and deleted the post and apologized to both the member and anyone who had a chance to read it, including Jerry. My actions were childish, and once more I'd like to apologize to everyone for doing so.

Edit: It was DAoO I yelled at, so I don't feel too bad about that, I just regret allowing my emotions about an entirely different matter to cloud my judgment and cause such an over-reaction on my part

Having a big laser collection has nothing to do with laser knowledge. Ok you you can see more different colors. (Someone who saw many movies isn´t automatically a movie buff). It only says how much money do you have or how much money you invest in your lasers.

Fully agreed. I hope to be judged by the content of my character and not the color of my coherent emission. So in this, yes, I'm still a relative noob, trying to self improve in this hobby. I don't have to run to Sam Goldwasser as much anymore; I'm doing more of my own repairs on gas lasers, and I *hope* I've been able to give good avice to folks who needed it after aggregating what i've learned here in the last few months.

Collections are cool, but, the real movers and shakers in this forum deserve credit for making the place and hobby possible. I don't feel I'm one of those people yet. But I am serious about the hobby and want to see it continue.

Aryntha, how long were you a Guest user (or "lurker") before you actually signed up?

A long time, really; I don't know if it was a year or not, but I honestly didn't get the push to jump in until I had some mode hopping questions back in November. I was pretty trepidatious about getting started off on the wrong foot.

It was a good choice though. Joining LPF made me take an interest I'd had for years quite a bit further pretty rapidly -- though as I said, I still absolutely consider myself new here, and know there are future mistakes that'll likely be made.

In the spirit of this thread, I'll say, really, I should be diving into doing my own builds more; that way I could contribute back to the forum more. See what Hemlock_Mike says about "appliance operators" - I want to be more than that; A lot more than that, so, I'm trying to learn as much as I can. (Course, that doesn't mean I have to be wavelength-starved along the way.)

I figure if someone does mean well, and tries to help, and tries to do the right thing, the other stuff will "come out in the wash", even if you do screw up a few times along that path.

This had to be awhile ago right?

Absofreakinlutely!

My action is TOTALLY self centered, self serving, and selfish.

I think that about covers it :eg:

That's why it is bad. It is NOT to help the student in any way :na:

Peace,
dave

But, still is helping YOU, so, it's not an absolutely bad thing ..... is still classified for the thread topic, then ? :p :D

(J/K )

It happens all the time. I knew a 15y girl who could barely read because her teachers pushed her through school for whatever reason. I myself was "assigned" to high school, and I only had a 6th grade education.

Wait, so what grades weren't you schooled in?

Did you go from 6th to 9th right away or after a few years?

Well I thought that I would add a little something here....

Don't get so excited that your 100mW green module came in the mail,
That you neglect to watch which way you put your battery(s) in.

I just got my 100mW green module in the mail today. Hooked it all up,
had it working for about two hours.

Then I took the battery out to look at something, I was too excited that I wasn't paying attention when I put the battery back in.

I tried to turn my laser back on and nothing happened. So I took the battery out and realized what I did. Now my laser wont power anymore. :(

$70 for two hours of use..... all for one simple mistake.

EDIT: I thought this was the thread to post your mistakes. Wrong thread. sorry.
