Re: ★ Ryan's Laser Build Shop ★ [POWERFUL BURNING LASERS] [Custom Build Service]

I would suggest waiting to collect money till you have the item built and ready to ship. Time from payment to receipt of the item is the biggest factor in how happy your customers are with your service. It has really helped my reputation as when someone buys from me they know their item will be in the mail within 24 hours.

This will also keep you from getting in a bind as you know you have the item ready to ship even if something disastrous happens in your life and you have to put everything on hold you won't end up with a huge que of people you have to either refund or put off.

I see your point, but my buyers are aware of their 2-3 week wait and I don't have the capital to enact such a policy.

Why would I take concerns about your sales to the public, into a private venue?

Sorry, but taking payments 2 to 3 weeks ahead of time is a horrible danger to buyers, and that needs to be voiced PUBLICLY, not in private.

I couldn't care less if you think that's a "derailment", because unethical or dangerous practices SHOULD be derailed.

Do with it how you feel. My policies ARE open in the public. Buyers ARE aware before they purchase, not like I'm hiding anything. Your policy is impossible for me to enact. I will run my business myself thank you.

I am not trying to deter you from getting this going but if that is the case I would suggest starting a little smaller with the capital you do have.

What that is saying is that if something crazy happens and you can't complete the work you will not have the funds to cover refunding your customers. All good things to think about.

If you don't have the "capital" to cover builds up front, then this is all the more of a concern. It means that when one of your build dies, you're not likely to have that "capital" to fix it. And guess what - that DOES happen.

Further, PP disputes are limited to 45 days. If you eat up 3 weeks of that by taking money upfront, your buyers are in a REALLY sketchy position. Nobody, no builder (you, nor anyone else) should be taking payments 3 weeks in advance like this. This has been discussed AT LENGTH on this forum.

NO reputable builder that I know of, does what you're proposing. Not a single one. It's not safe for buyers, and it's a flat out recipe for disaster, as we have seen on this forum over and over again.

If you don't have the capital to do multiple builds, then don't do multiple builds. Build up your capital by doing them as you can afford to.

I will have the money to fix it, if need be, within the 1 month warranty period. Buyers will usually have their builds in 21 days so they would have around 24 days to make that decision, which is more than enough.

I do this as a made-to-order service, yes it's different from other sellers but that's why people came to me: they get to choose many different options they want in their build, not what you decide for them.

Every builder on this forum does builds "made-to-order". There's nothing different about what you're doing. And no other builder that I know of takes payments 3 weeks in advance as a general practice.

If you have the money to fix a laser, then you have the money to build a laser. So build your lasers first, and then sell them. Or if they're custom, build them on request and then take payment.

Your approach is exactly was has created huge problems in this community before (though your approach is a bit worse - you've got less experience, and you're going at this harder). What happens in the end is invariably that veteran members of the forum come in and take care of fixing the trail of negativity left behind.

Re: ★ Ryan's Laser Build Shop ★ [POWERFUL BURNING LASERS] [Custom Build Service]

well there is also this thing called common courtesy, which this forum doesnt seems to know anything about. clearly unsaid motto here is "if you are not in the cult, you are against it"

RDH said many times its non of his business, regarding ryans shop and yet he is very vocal, this is just a reminiscences of TS93 thread, when he asked question about selling lasers etc.

I truly think that many here only make their living from selling laser and when other user decided to sell, they get really angry and rage, that they will lose some business.

You can trust the voice of experience here

NOBODY here is "making a living" selling lasers here

These are valid concerns from experienced members and sellers

We have seen (more than once) a seller getting in over their head, running into a financial problem, and leaving the members to pay the price

You may have noticed that we are VERY protective of the members here ;)
That includes you

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** -- BTW - Calls for "common courtesy" and for people to "be nice" and trying to get people to "speak in private" are tools that con men use to extend the time between the start of a scam and discovery

rhd is right. I said I wouldn't get into this, but I am not worried of a ban now.

Point is: we all do made-to-order lasers. We just do them via PMs. I have sold more lasers via PMs than you probably have ever sold.

And really - change your banner. It's slimy advertising and it will get our hobby into trouble.

I have prep'd myself to ensure I cover the costs of repairs within 1 month. That's not an issue.

lol? I don't see how it will get our hobby into trouble.

Re: ★ Ryan's Laser Build Shop ★ [POWERFUL BURNING LASERS] [Custom Build Service]

I think we are all trying to convey the same message to you in different ways. You could become a great seller here and we want to see you succeed. Starting out small and growing your business is the best strategy. At this point you can't possibly know what your limitations are and I know it looks like the sky is the limit but the last thing you want is to go into it full tilt and end up over your head. It is a recipe for disaster. Give it time it will come.

Also as Dave pointed out we are looking to protect both the sellers and the buyers in this community.;)

Thanks DTR. I have since paused sales from a page ago like I said. I will finish up the orders and hopefully get some good reviews done. I will then move away from these mainstream builds for a bit and work on my personalized builds to prove myself to the community.

I just want everyone to know I understand your concerns, and I've also worked VERY hard at this, I'm not sure if you guys can see it.

A little appreciation would be nice but some of you were pretty harsh. And the way some of you commented sounded more on the side of jealousy than precaution.

I appreciate those who voiced their concerns maturely and with wise content. Advice from everyone has been heeded.

I will put my trust in the vets to accept me as one of the community's sellers.

P.S. I will edit the thread & remove the banner for now but it WILL be back after I do open displays of my builds to gain some confidence from the vets

Re: Ryan's Build Shop 1.0 [Closed] [A new store will re-open after trust has been gai

The banner is bad for our hobby because it promotes 2.2W monsters as toys to play around with and burn things with. Burning of things is NOT helpful to our hobby - that's why most of the vets here are not in love with burning. It makes us look like a bunch of stupid teenagers who just want to destroy things.

Nice designed OP, but personally I would step back a little and start smaller to build up a higehr reputation by getting some builts around and showing that your service and lasers are worth every $.

But I think you have a good potential for the future!

The banner never mentions they were toys & I don't care if you don't like burning. We are not a bunch of teenagers who want to destroy things, neither will we look like one because of my banner. A burner can be used for camping to light fires. The banner WILL be back after I do some open builds.

I will be back and I seek to gain confidence from the community with quality builds!

Yes I have heeded the advice of DTR, Moh, yours and a few others. Thanks for your appreciation, trust me when I tell you it's worth it after all the hammering :p

I don't have much of an opinion of your banner but what I will say is you may think there are not any risks being in Canada selling to the US but the more attention you draw to yourself the more likely you will draw the attention of organizations that want to stop you. Last thing you want is to get your name on a list and have a rash of seizures come out of nowhere. Specially be careful with comments that will fly in the face of these organizations giving them a personal vendetta.;)

Also we have trade agreements with Canada and I am not sure how they can affect you legally but I am sure that on the custom forms that you sign there is a bit about being in compliance with import rules and regulations of the destination country. At the very least fudging the customs forms for ease of passing customs can be one avenue they could go at you. Just be careful.

Yes I have considered those points as well. There are ways I protect myself, the only people that know my home address are the people who I buy from and I trust (people like you). But no buyers or potential FDA agents or HC agents can get at me even if they buy from me. My lawyer has helped me to implement methods to protect myself. Besides the point, I can actually guarantee 100% legal pass through customs, I didn't want to mention anything about it before as I know there would be people crying wolf. But after studying the law with my lawyer and with various phonecalls to other companies who are in the same business... it truly is 100% legal.

Thanks for finally listening to your LPF elders. Closing up your shop temporally is a step in the right direction. Earn some time and make a few more friends here at LPF before you go all gang busters on our BST section again.

Yes you wil find that we are very protective of our members. Not long ago we had another young seller ''Ben'' who offered ''super, duper, speciall'' laser builds.
It didn't take long before one of his builds turned up defective. Turns out it died because of poor craftsmanship. This so called ''pro builder'' refused to own up to it, and blamed the user for not following duty cycles.

Long story short he got his ass banned.
My self and a few other LPF members, all pitched in to buy him a new diode and driver and have a real pro rebuild his laser.
We all stepped in to help this poor kid because we did not want him leaving thinking LPF is full of thieves and scammers.
