Review: ARGLPM Ophir

What makes some filaments worse than others?

Some is very inconsistent in diameter and texture if you will. Some will be too brittle and not go through the extruder gear without stripping easily and then not feeding. Just difficult to print. You will know it when you run into it. I haven't had any trouble with Jet filament from Amazon and this Ebay source either. I bet Makerfarm is just fine. I have a little trouble finding the sweet spot for printing with filament from Ultimachine but it works great if you modify the heat just a bit. Look at all the fun your going to have. :) At least you can use some of this info to get started with. All I had was a printer and a spool of Jet filament and luckily it printed nicely.

what is the size of these cases so far? estimates will work since im trying to find a custom wooden box to store my ARGMeter in when i buy it.

This is in inches but dont hold us to it yet it could change and i am not sure what the final height will be.

alright ill look for something bigger than that. i am wanting to get a cool looking wood cigar box and pad the inside to fit the ophir head and LPM itself

im thinking of doing something like this but im hoping to get a flip top box. devils weed logo looks sick. im still looking :)

Cool, cool. I love that green color on the extruder head. I just got a spool of it to start printing with.

It's GITD too :p Don't know why Colin sent me GITD extruder parts, it's more expensive. Printing looks cool when the lights are off.

I made a coaster. :) Doing some calibration/test prints before doing the case. The coaster actually came out near perfect. I'm very impressed.

Yeah, I've been looking at acetone baths for these, I'll have to try it out. If it doesn't mess with the tolerances of the holes it should be fine. The glossy part may be a problem though, not the best idea of have glossy reflective cases around lasers :shhh:

The cases will likely be smooth on the top and the bottom since both of those sides will be printed directly onto the glass, may not need acetone, but it would still help smooth out the sides.

I didn't think about shiny stuff around lasers :) good point. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Very impressive so far on everybody's part.

A buddy of mine at our Hackerspace is printing nylon. It is an awesome print, all the looks of PLA and the toughness of ABS. Would make awesome bearings as well.
