Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

the source is a taiwanese tech company. they only make low powered diodes. and my contact here in the US is just a middle man. i don't see anything shady. but i understand your concern....

BUT remember the proof is in the pudding. i have 3 diodes on the way and 2 are are going out for 3rd party testing and 1 is just for me.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

If it's like the other similar diodes I have seen spec sheet for, a pulsed output is rated about 50mW, and remember folks the shorter wl will look a good deal brighter than same mW's of 658nm (about our avg wl for LOC diodes) so, it is interesting... -GH

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

I'd be interested in one, possibly two, depending on how the tests go and the final price. Hopefully we can get 100 to get the lower price.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

I just received the diodes today via ups ground. The packaging was great. look at this special diode holder. also not the long pins on the diodes. now give me a few days to get some thoughts together on testing and such.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

^^^ these are them. in my first post i put the description sheet. i am sending some out for third party testing. so be patient everybody... thanks.

one word about "bad beam, or bad divergence." we are not scientists here lol. and these low powered diodes are obviously not for projectors. the beam of the nichia 445s is considered horrible, but to my laymen eyes it is one of the most beautiful beams i've seen. so don't fall into all the hype of the fear mongers.

if the tests are bad then it is a no go. i would never sell some thing that i didn't say it is.
as to the 639 vs 635 it is a non issue. all diodes have a varaince. some could be 639 some could be 632. same with the 405's same with the 445's.

A reasonable point - but these (8.5, 35) are actually WORSE than 445s (12, 40)

$45 for 35mW, with really really bad divergence, doesn't make sense to me.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

i respect what you are saying but you really have no idea what the beam looks like. neither do i. i have made it clear that tests will be done before i move forward.
can you tell me and the forum what your above numbers translate to into a beam in the night time sky?

and if the price doesn't make sense to you, then don't participate. and please don't speak badly of a product you have no personal experiece with.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

Sorry Chip,

I wasn't intending to upset you. I think there may be some communication misinterpretation here.

In saying the divergence was bad, I wasn't making a qualitative assessment of something I hadn't seen. I was making a quantitative comparison of the specs. The specs on this diode show a worse divergence than alternatives. That's all. Wasn't suggesting "bad" as in garbage, or anything else silly. I just meant that quantitatively, it's not a great spec.

And I could be wrong on that too - maybe 12 x 40 are good specs - I'm not 100% on this without something to compare. But it's worse than the 445s, and worse than alternative 635 options (at least, if the specs spec out!)

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

thank you. i'm not gonna lie i was getting butt hurt lol. but if you read all my posts you will see i am completely open about testing the diodes being priority.

Re: 635nm new diodes feeler.

:)

It WOULD be nice to have a good source of moderately powerful 635s - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed too!
