PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That and the ND Glass isn't 1064 nm, a little lower. I bought this instead, seller included a second one with a chip on the ends I might be able to get fixed, if I find someone willing to do so cheaply enough.

This might be too big at 12 mm diameter to deal with, could require such a high power flash tube and power supply for it I will just relist it on ebay someday, but it's on the way to me now.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I had already researched ND Glass online earlier, that's why I'm not buying it, short high energy pulses, but it won't take as much heat.

I was only concerned you might buy it because it is big. I wanted to give you what I have learned about them before you bought something that just wasn't worth the money. :o

Are you saying that bigger isn't always better?:p

Thanks Paul, I'm early awaiting that book, but it might not come before I need to travel. Curtis, big can be too big, I need to learn a lot more about the flash tube pumping relationship of diameter and length to get an idea of how much additional flash power is required for these larger rods.

I've seen that, how do you collimate the output of a huge slab?

@Alaskan

Chris, I wasn't talking down to you at all. It just happens that I've been reading Koechner's book on Nd doped glass and he was also talking about using them for amplifiers. I have just gotten into it a little, but it shows how the beam travels through the glass when pumped by another Nd:YAG, especially when the glass is cut at brewster angles for 1064nm. There are stress graphs and energy and power tables. I have only just started getting into it, so I am far from an expert on the subject.

But, I hope to be, eventually. :o

Thanks Paul, I thought wrong, I am looking so much forward to getting that book, I have two more days before I go, might get it.

You are getting into a real engineering. After figuring out flash lamps (do they still produce and sell them?) and its power supply, you'll need to build a cooling system. That will be really cool

Maybe it is possible to regrind the rod into a slab and use laser diodes as a pump. yeah, $$$

A great book. Hope there still will be a new edition, the last one was 10 years ago.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I don't know if there will be further editions, but I wonder how much is new in the engineering of solid state lasers. Mine is not the newest edition, but it is still pertinent to the design of these types of lasers. + Rep.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

What is this book everyone's talking about? Is it the Springer one on engineering solid state lasers?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Mine is the hardcover Springer Series in Optical Sciences by Walter Koechner, "Solid State Laser Engineering".

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Been there, done that, but manually with three power supplies, I was a one armed paper hanger busy trying to keep everything adjusted to the needed temperatures.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I remember you posting about that, Chris. That is doing it the HARD way.
