PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I just wanted to see if the thing was good, was going to do more but as in most of my parallel projects, will I get to it? Probably not, need to sell it if I don't.

Six watts of green would be pretty cool. Especially if it has good beam specs. Let me know if you decide to sell it as I might be able to justify that in my mind.

Been there, done that, but manually with three power supplies, I was a one armed paper hanger busy trying to keep everything adjusted to the needed temperatures.

That's what arduino is for!

That would free up my hands, I was also looking at some cheap TEC controllers from China, a member posted here a few years ago they worked well enough for his DPSS project, as long as they could keep it within a couple of degrees F., tenths better though.

Well now I'm starting to think about making an offer on the thing. You guys are a bad influence....on my checking account!

Mine is the hardcover Springer Series in Optical Sciences by Walter Koechner, "Solid State Laser Engineering".

Sorry to kind of re-derail the thread here, but I must say that this is an absolutely wonderful book for anyone interested in building solid state lasers. I've never read it cover to cover, but I've used it on multiple occasions as a reference. It's incredibly straightforward and the math is easy to understand, glad to see people here are familiar with it.

As a side note, for anyone building frequency doubled lasers or lasers that take advantage of other nonlinear processes, I would highly recommend "Fundamentals of Nonlinear Optics" by Peter E. Powers. Very interesting topic if you can sort though the cluster**** of notation and subscript that the topic naturally lends itself to.

Okay no more derailing. I promise.

Where are you seeing six watts? On the warning label? "sticker power" is way over actual rating. According to the JenLas site, this is a 3W laser.

I happen to know Alaskan has a 5+ watt 532nm laser. I assumed this was the one, but if I am wrong, I do apologize. :o

Those models all say six watts on a sticker, I don't know why because they are designed to operate at half that or less. However, they will do more than three watts if pushed harder than their specifications. i was able to burn stuff with more gusto than my 4+ watt 532 nm CNI laser when i pushed mine hard, my very uncalibrated wild guess was 5 watts based off of that, that's probably where he got it from. It might have been lower power due to a higher power density than my China laser which has a beam width of about 5 mm on one side, these appear to be half that wide.

Hey, Chris. Are you settled in your new location yet? Or are you still waiting on another flight?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

in Doha, at a hotel, won't be in my apartment until Sunday afternoon.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Great. Glad you got there safely. Sunday isn't too far off. :yh:

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Thanks, that last flight from LA brutal, 15.5 hours but when I think about how long it took before these fast jets, nothing, of course. 8+ thousand mile flight yesterday, it's already past 1 AM Saturday morning here now.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Yeah, 15 hours in a cramped airline seat would be torture for me too. I think the longest flight I took was over 6 hours and I was very happy to get off when we landed.
