Re: Osram PL450 450nm power chart

seems pretty close to my results.

mine LPM'd at 135mW with 200mA on a acrylic lens.

Re: Osram PL450 450nm power chart

Noway it can be run at 1A. I stopped testing it at 200mA and that is already 50% overdriven.

I am not sure why I wrote 1A. I meant 100mA as I saw that was what the bench supply was set to in the picture.:D Ok so they recomend 130mA and it looks like on the graph the efficiency is not falling off much from what I can tell at a glance all the way up to 200mA. Interesting. I think I may finally be ordering a few of these to play with. I am thinking they would make good keychain units.:eg:

Re: Osram PL450 450nm power chart

I wonder how far these diodes can actually go.. it seems the power/current relation is pretty linear all the way up to the 200 mA point. I can imagine you don't want to push it any harder though, it might fry before it starts leveling off...

The power meter display gives even more light then the diode :( i red that some 445 diodes are arround 455 nm and doing 2 watts ,,,,

They are multimode diodes, This is a single mode. Much more pleasing beam specs and dot shape :)

Are you going to murder this? I'd like to see how much you can get out of it.

Does CNI use single mode 455s?

Re: Osram PL450 450nm power chart

What happend to the diode when it goes over the limit ? Will it dim like the 445nm diode or turn into LED as the 405nm diode ? I am hesitating to push it till death. It is my only 450nm diode and they are pricier than the M140 diodes...

***EDIT*** I push it to 400mA with a power output of 302mW !!!

WOW man thats a huge boost in output, was that using a 405-G-1?

Now that is awesome. And the efficiency is still pretty linear on them all the way up. :eg:

Nice Graphed Power/Current chart....

I only see one small problem... as time goes on the 445nm
LD will get progressively hot and some of the heat will go
into the heatsink.

To eliminate any radiant heat energy from the LD and/or the
heatsink falling on the sensor and skewing your data I would
suggest that you move the Laser a good distance away from
the LPM Sensor...
The pic looks like there is 1/2" between the Sensor and LD...

I plan to use one of these in a cheap~ish RGB unit, so my question is, how did you house the diode? Did you machine your own 3.8mm module? Or buy it somewhere?

Thanks for testing this diode for everyone!

Can I ask where you got that power supply?
