Osram PL450 450nm 80mW power chart

i have one of these on the way and plan to put it in a labby. searched for t038 diode house and variations with no result. is there a "bay" module i can put this diode in?

Hey, does anyone have a voltage vs current chart? I'd love to make a low power pointer that runs off a single AAA battery. What kind of voltage does it take for the current draw to be around 70-100mA ish range?

I'm trying to design a boost circuit that can take 1.5v and boost it up to the required voltage.

Or on second thought I might just buy one of these.
50mW 450nm laser pen /single mode/round dot [OL-450-50P] - $82.00 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

I'm surprised there isn't more hype over these. Finally a nice beam from a 450nm at a power level that's actually usable as a laser "pointer"! I'd much rather have nice beam specs and safer output levels than CD case melting power. lol

BTW can anyone tell the difference between 445nm and 450nm? Prolly not huh? I can just barely make out 660nm from 635nm.

I have information about a current vs voltage. It was made at the same time as the current vs power chart. I have to look for the Excel chart on my main computer.
This is my small surf computer at work. I can't do anything but surfing :)

Here is the current vs voltage chart.

Well after squishing the first one in the press I got 2 more diodes the other day and I would say that these are impressive. I got 301mw max ran it at 400-410ma for 10 mins in a powerlight B50 with 1 cr123.

I think this diode has more potential. I just pressed the 2nd diode into the module without a glitch. I might try to kill it... I really was expecting a dim or blink but nothing after 10mins!

That was a DTR G2 lense.

Nice.:eg:

Glad the second one I sent did not suffer the same fate as the first.:o

We need a murder fund for this diode. We still have to determine the maximum output or the point the diode dies.

Nooo.. The third has leads and fires too just havent got to do anything with it yet...

If anyone wants the broken one I'll send it for free for decaning and macro's.. the diode itself looks fine Just the back of it got squished and it wouldnt fire..

Here is a pic

i finally got my diode pressed into a module. using a linear driver set at 379mA an lpm reading was about 270mW with a 3 element lens. i'm now working on putting it all into a c6 host. i'll post good lpm readings when the project is complete.
i like this diode, the spot is like a 405's. beam specs seem very good.

edit:

while putting it all together, i killed it somehow. haven't yet checked the driver. i don't think (hope) the current killed it. lack of building skill more than likely:yabbmad:

i made the offer ($45) on another diode. gonna be more conservative with the current this time. and redo my building procedure. i'm sick of killing diodes. back to basics

more edit: i'm wondering why we haven't seen more builds with this diode. altho i didn't have it lit for long the color and beam specs got my attention. it would pop a balloon better than a more powerful mm 445 diode.

Would it be possible for you guys to post a picture of the raw beam from your PL450 as well as what mA you are driving it?

I'm driving mine at 306mA and it looks like this
