NUBM44 6W+ 450nm Laser Diode

I've been trying to find the divergence of the fast and slow axis of this new diode, nothing yet, no specs of any kind. Is the NUBM44 the real part number? I seem to remember reading somewhere it is an artificial number assignment until we know more.

I'm surprised that no one has gotten the results for the diode at 4.5A to 5.5A with a LPM that can read higher than DTR's.
I guess I'm not that patient:D.

:can: Uh? Where is that video?

Edit: Found it:

Single axis expansion is more ideal for an astigmatic profile like this. Cylinder lens pair or a prism will work.

You thought that was religion bashing? That's cute.

But maybe the internet isn't the place for you if you're going to be offended at the drop of a hat. I am under no obligation to take your ultra-sensitive emotions under consideration, and neither is anyone else.

Actually I have heard others say that with prisms these do not work with both the 3.5w 445 diode and the Oclaro 638 diode.

I'm not having this conversation with you. Take it to the religion thread.

:can: Uh? Where is that video?

Looks like this is the one, hits 7+ right at the beginning says running at 4.5a, however i wouldn't discount a brief fluctuation of power as it was turned on accounting for that.

Edit: you edited you post right as i replied!

You've heard people say prisms don't expand with those particular diodes? Did they say why? I suspect they're doing something wrong, because it's a law of optics.

I did, did you not see video just got up to 7w

Dang thats a lot of power. Explains why each projector only needs 7 :)

Off topic, what have you been up to Rick? I see you are still selling on ebay, but you haven't posted here much in a while :(

Hmm let me try to find where I read it. Wish I had perfect memory. I'm certain it's in one of those threads for beam correction of the Mitsubishi p73 diodes somewhere.
But you're probably right anywho. A larger set of prisms can be used to accommodate the wide output I'm sure.

Yes...The Holy Grail thread did get into using Anamorphic Prism's to expand the slow axis of the P-73.

While I have found this does work....the cost of usage is unacceptable because the prism pair causes optical power loss around 10% when the beam geometry is optimized. That is why we have evolved to a Collimation lens with a 2mm EFL used in combination with a set of Cylindrical lenses as the optimal construct.

Well....that is my opinion !!! And further, I use a set of Cylindricals that are 6X. To me...this provides a tighter beam on the P-73 and the Oclaro HL63193.....But optical theory notes the 4X should work as well as the 6X.

Now...what will work to optically correct the NUBM44 ??? Not sure !! Depends on the NUBM44 raw LD divergence. That is what we start with...LD Raw Divergence...and that is what determines what optics will be the best !!

My guess....and hope is that the NUBM44 is not as bad as the P-73/HL63193 !!! And that a simple set of Anamorphic Prism's will do the deed !!

We will see !!!

TKS DTR, I will take 455 over 445nm any day, every nm higher than 445nm helps. I don't know which graph to believe, but here's one from the FAA:

Edit: Only 4 watts? Is this even the same diode that you and Rick tested, Jamey? Lol.

Well that's exactly what we've all been looking for! Thanks! I wonder if I can convince my wife to let me build a laser setup like that in the spare room of our small apartment. Haha. :D

That looks like something may be on the lens or the diode window. If there was electrical damage the edges probably would not still have that uniform bar shape. Is that with the lens unfocused or with the lens out altogether?

JSTR

I received the diode, slowly ramped the current up to 5000ma and the output, without a lens, is merely 5 watts. Looking at the diode, it appears it has been electrically abused and damaged from it so that it will not meet the minimum specified output power for this model of diode. I am not picky, but this is wrong for you to sell a damaged diode. Even the output light pattern shows damage was done to the dye inside and or the window.

This is a photo of the raw output, no lens.

Will you check that, please? I honestly didn't notice anything unusual before I shipped it, granted I only used it for 10-15 minutes and never without a lens. Did you really have to open a Paypal dispute before I could even respond?

I PM'd you btw
