Here's my 445 build in a SS CR2...

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

It should be charged at about 45 minutes I believe...

The V5 FlexDrive will suck it down to less than 2.5 volts before the driver drops out of the regulated power setting. So I have to just watch that...

Because it's not really good for a Li-Ion to discharge that low...

Mathematically, I should get close to 45 minutes and still have at least 3 volts left...

Saturday night I had it with me and it got a fair amount of use outside at my buddies where we had a fire going and BBQ'n and stuff.

Sunday morning I checked the battery and it was still at 3.85 volts. So I'm pretty happy with the setting I have it at... :)

P.S. This is the battery I'm using. The best I believe. If anybody knows of a better one, please let me know!

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Hi Jay. I have your SS CR2 kit which uses this size battery. I'm curious as to why you use the unprotected version in your build, is because of the size difference between protected and unprotected?

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

I didn't know they existed!

But thanks for making me search...

I see that AW makes them! (checking availability)
Protected RCR2 350mAH - CPFMarketPlace

More capacity too! :)

Ordering...

Edit: They used to make them, but no longer make them... (discontinued 3 years ago)

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Sorry I didn't provide you this link, I figured you new about them but wasn't using them for some reason (too big?). I'm awaiting my order from the same source as well :yh:

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

It says they are a tad longer, but I'm sure they will fit the SS CR2 host...

Edit: Bummer, AW just e-mailed me back and said he doesn't have RCR2's with protection. Discontinued 3 years ago...

No problem, the ones from lighthound are good...

Re: Photos and Video of 445nm

Still looks cool :P

I find it fun that with an acrylic lens, at 500mA, you can slice electrical tape like a spiders web..Very fast, at a focal point of 3" :)
No issue smoking electrical tape at 5ft..with a 5mm wide line..Stupid acrylic cheap lens..I've read at photonlexicon people running these diodes at 1300mA...I wonder the limits?

Re: My Second build

@ EF & Jerry Thanks guys for the kind words on the build ;) it's a fun laser to play with. The beam is so bright !

@ T_J Nope I realy did not edit that post it reads like it always has, now who's the funny guy

You edited the OP after my post. :tsk: Funny guy. :na:

Re: My Second build

I'll be adding the microboost driver as soon as I get another 405-G1 ZLens ass'y. I don't want to measure divergence at HIGH power.

Re: My Second build

Is the blue color in the beam shot close to what the human eye will see or is that how the camera interpreted it? I joined the GB for the next round of 445nm diodes and I'm now anxiously awaiting its arrival!

To me the beam is very purple. More solid, bright, and less "washed out" than bluray, but it is certainly purple. However the dot is very blue :undecided:
