Edited title to reflect what this thread is now about.

What do you guys think we can get away with for drive current? and what are some recommended drivers?

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

I think that'd be your standard 300mW 660nm DVD diode.

I don't think I've ever seen a single-mode c-mount anyway.

I think that'd be your standard 300mW 660nm DVD diode.

Thanks, I assumed the c mounts were single mode due to there low divergence and good looking beams.

So I guess I already posses the most powerful single mode red laser lol.

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

c-mount 650's with low divergence and good beams?? Where O.o

well the beams look good and far throwing in the pics, perhaps it just because they are so much more powerful than the sub 500mw reds most people have(or they are photoshopped)

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

How about -

What's the most powerful Red *any* mode diode, including C mount, that is actually in stock somewhere public, now ?

That's a question I would actually like to know the answer to.

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

It is the 500mW single mode 650nm there was like a 5 piece sample way back when. They have the same divergence as a lpc-826

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

didn't lazerer do a sweet build with one of those 500mw sm 650s?

Also interested.

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

Yeah, Red is where I'm lacking too - but it does seem that development has kinda fallen behind in that spectrum.

So I'm on the lookout as well; though most high powered reds make the 445 beams look awesome by comparison.

(My old Orion HV beam is honest to god square, not rectangular.)

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

My Lazerer PL660 I had was also square but it was because the beam got clipped on the way out of the aperture. I was happy with the "defect"

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

best going ATM red is IIRC the very hard to find 640nm NONE at greedbay- except inside $$$ lab lasers at 2 0r 3X the cost OR MORE of the other reds- i got a 1250mw 650 Spacelas lab for $235 plus ship- a 1+W 640 lab will set you back >$2000- BUT will be as right as a +2W 650-- and have a uber thin beams- very important for PJs doing animations and abstracts

yes. to sum it up he found a supplier and he got like 5 of them. he tried to host a GB but no more could be sourced. since bluray killed DVD the 500mw reds never went into full production.

This makes me very said :( Lets organize a movement to bring back the glorious DVD!!!!!! who is with me?

Aye! Blurays is 'spensive....

....but. The 405's....

Actually. Could care less. Visibility is bad and I'm an a$$ guy....

I mean beam guy.

Re: Most powerful Red Single mode diode that isnt C mount?

Do you just want it because it burns stuff or looks brighter and is red? If the latter, get one of those 638nm single mode lasers and it'll probably look brighter than the 660nm variants even with far less power.
