Re: Forum Competitions!
Vintage Light is one of my all-time favorite builds on this forum. It's inspired me to get into vintage hosts, and fall in love with 473. (Many thanks and kudos to ZRaffle and jayrob for a job well done.) I'd love to see more vintage builds, as there are a lot of great old hosts on eBay, usually available for $15 or less.
Anyone wanna have a vintage build competition? (I'd love to see more theme-oriented competition ideas, in addition to 'most original', which it seems like this thread is turning into.)
Other random thoughts on the subject:
- One month, while a convenient number, might be too short of a time. (I know that getting people to machine heatsinks, acquire parts, etc, can easily take that long for a build.) Perhaps making it a seasonal thing (e.g., 3 months) would result in more/better submissions. (e.g., 'Best <xxx> Host Competition Winner - Summer 2013')
- I like the idea of bragging rights as an incentive, and think that this might be motivation enough for most people.
However having sponsored prizes (in addition to a 'hall of fame' master thread with all of the competitions, how cool would that be) would also be cool, if it's possible to find enough sponsors. (Or get everyone to donate say $5 per submission, and buy a prize with the winnings.)
Anyway, great idea and thread.
