Clear anodizing is actually a good thing for the look. Blank aluminum is a fingermagnet and wiping the fingerprints off will make the host dull.
Just sand the contact between the metals and you will have a very good looking host.
A perfect match for the Pl520 diodes. :)

I am still waiting for the diodes from the PL groupbuy. I could have the diodes from DTR a several times by now.

Yeah they are rings! This one came out pretty amazing! Only thing is the groove are just a little bit shallow buy I still manager to get it to work!
 
How should i sand where the diode is pressed? Just a piece of fine grit sand paper rolled into a tube and run it back and forth through the hole where the diode is supposed to go?
 
Was wondering about that myself, got mine today. Blord mentioned dull aluminium or something, I was planning on polishing, good idea or what?
 
yeah but now that I've got mine polished i'm thinking about re-anodizing to prevent scratches and fingerprints and then i'll just clean up the important areads.

a soft metal braise wheel on a dremel/dill will clean that anodizing up pretty quick.
 
Wow... i really need to get a dremel. Looks like it is pretty helpful in this hobby.

I found something to use my round drivers or contact pads! Now, if I just had my 5.6mm diode press and a driver for my 9mm...
 
I haven't put the video on the pc yet, but after prepping the host by removing the anodizing, the method I used for a round driver works great.

I solder 4 pretinned wire facing outward on the outter ring where the tabs were, and then bent them around the driver, so when it's inserted they are scraping against the side of the host. Then I slapped a copper RAM heats ink on top of it and arctic silvered the heat sink in place.

How did you remove the anodizing, did you go ghetto style and dip it in oven cleaner?
