I was going to try a prism pair to correct the fast axis, but for some reason, one does the job. :thinking: I'm not sure why.

at 6 meters with glass lens, divergence is ~3.3mRad and has some nasty wings:



At 6 meters with glass lens and uncoated glass prism, divergence is ~0.9mRad! wings are almost gone, too:

Axis is expanded ~3 times, and divergence is ~1/3. This fits with our model of divergence is inversely proportional to diameter

wow nice! did you happen to record the power loss through that acrilic prism. and is it ar coated?

hey alex, where did you get your acrylic prism?

That's really odd that a single prism would work. I wonder if it would work for the 445s as well? o.o
 
Hmmm. Im gonna have to try some prisms now. I got a bunch at SELEM last month. Not sure what they are coated for, though (if they are coated). Thanks cyparagon. :)

No coating on mine - It's a piece of junk that I got for $2. I haven't measured the loss, but its likely >20%. This is just for proof of concept.
 
if you use a prism and a cut and redirect that beam you could get amazing beam out of it im sure.
It would cut the width of the beam in half it looks like with that prism you would get such an amazing beam and one that small with a divergence of less than 1mrad this is perfect for scanning.
A bit expensive but worth it.
5mm beam. that would fit on alot of scanning mirrors and thats at 6 meters away.
Why have we not been using these before?

Sure, if an anamorphic prism will work. It looks like cyparagon used a standard prism. I'm having trouble with getting any decent results with these anamorphics. :confused:

Just compared the beam at night to a 300mW LOC and who cares about the wide line!

This wavelength is so much more visible vs a LOC diode! :cool:
 
Can anyone give me a link to some prisms?? :) preferrably under 30 dollars (I think it has been posted before in this thread but I cant seem to find it)

Anamorphic is the application of the prism, not the type of prism. Anything clear and triangular will work.

Very true.

I've heard of people correcting projectors (real projectors - like movie projectors) that were at odd angles to the screen, by creating a 3D prism shapes out of pieces of window glass, and then filling the 3D shape with a liquid (not sure if it was water or oil, or something else).
 
I forgot to mention, that for this 'orange' wavelength, I got a huge 30% increase in power using the 650-G-1 glass lens vs AR coated acrylic...

Somebody else that has a 650-G-1, please verify. But I'm sure of my comparisons... :)

^^^Jay, can you test the difference in using a 405/445 G1 vs a 650 G1 please?

I'm trying to decide which to order from you:p
