GB 20mW 635nm diode

Got mine today. Looks like it arrived safely in its padded blanket. Now I need to decide if it's going to go into the guidesman host that'll be empty once my saik host ever gets to Moh from China or the hostlights that I also ordered. I could build another pen but the only host I have is the same as my 5mw 635. Now to go hunt down an LM337 for the driver.

Just to double check since I can't really make out the diagram in the linked datasheet these diodes are case pin positive and the negative pin is on the bottom when the case pin is on the right.

Not used (PD+)
LD+
LD-

Am I correct?

alright, now somebody tell me, how on earth do you get the freaking diode/ module/driver out of these pen hosts? I have taken a freakin metal rod, stuffed it in the hole, and beat it with a hammer, and this crap doesn't come out. On my old IQS violet one of course, not my new red one. But how do you get that thing out of there?

You need a very firm grip on that silver tip, like a vise or a water pump pliers.
But protect it from scratches with leather or wood.

Then, patiently wiggle the tip off.

Some simply unscrew.

I can get the tip off, that parts alright. I just cant get the module out of the laser itself, it's like freakin permanently in there

Push it out towards the front. Not easy, since it's pressfit, and sometimes even glued.
Take out the foam around the spring.
Mind the button.

yeah, I guess i'll just try again with some more force. Stick my rod in (that sounds dirty) and hammer the hell outta that thing

Fixed.

I'd forgotten I got one of these; really excited to get back to campus and get it so I can get to work. :D

haha, just saw anselms reason for deleting
DONT USE A HAMMER

and yep, that sounds dirty

If i shouldn't use a hammer, which didnt work for me either, I'll just have to experiment.

Okay back on track, whose got theirs up and running yet

EDIT: I also just ordered a few of these hosts, to see if I can't get one of these bad boys in there

Hope that you guys have better results than i do. I cant seem to get them to go past 12mW with a aixiz glass coated for 635nm that's at a 90mA. Does that sound correct to you guys 12mW after optics and such?

Other than the Aixiz driver, what are you guys using?

Phi I got my diodes today. Thanks again I really appreciate it:)!

That's a nice host jake:). Hey how did you remove the front piece from your laser unscrew or pull off? Thanks,

if your talking about the IQS style pen, I put it in a vice a towel around it, tightened the vice barely hand tight, and just hold the body of the pen, and wiggle from left to right

Got mine today, but at the moment I have no diode housings to even test it.:banghead:

Regarding the green pens as host:
The cheap one from ebay is very hard if not impossible to disassemble in a non-destuctive manner.
I had to cut it up to get to the module.

On the ones from DX instead, the module can be pulled out because it's threaded onto
that silver front tip, leaving a clean and empty host behind.

The drivers suck, too, the one from the ebay green can't be pot-modded to less than ~100ma.
On top of that, its mA output is a function of the Vin.:banghead:
The output with 2x AAAs is 103mA, with a 14500 it's 117mA.
