GB 20mW 635nm diode

I am eager to get a couple of these built. I made a pinout diagram for a quick reference. Did not see one posted.;)

DTR, that's "looking at the bottom", right? (Just making sure. The original PDF was a bit confusing on the 635-40s...)

Got mah layzor diodes yesterday..
they arrived safely and look great. cant wait to fire em up.
:thanks:

That's correct that diagram is looking from the bottom at the pin side.

Does anybody know how many diodes i should be using for a test load? I have a pre made pyro load and i believe the red setting has four 1n4001 and the blue has six 1n4001 diodes.

So compared to the 40mW 635nm diode the "negative" and the "not-used/photodiode" pins are switched, right?
EDIT: OK, nevermind, I misread the other diode's PDF. It's just like this one apparently.

Even the operating currents are surprisingly close.
Does anyone have a proper specsheet for this one, the one in the OP is hardly readable.

I recieved my diodes two days ago, sorry I didn't post on that day. My last 48 hours have been super busy.

I also have a 532 pen, but from Swimminsurfer256 and I want to take that apart and put one of these 635nm diodes in it with a flexdrive set at 90mA.

I will soon try and disect the 532 pen and I'll update to see if I could take it apart.

I finally got mine ... the postman couldn't figure out the Suite#. The funny thing it was clearly a 24 not a 29 like the postman said.

He should consider hisself fortunate that my girl labeled the envelope!

I ordered 10. I might be convinced to part with a few. :D Though if there's significant interest, i'm sure DJNY would do another. However I believe there are currently 35mW 635nm diodes on ebay atm, if they aren't gone already.

Qume, I haven't seen any 35mW 635s? Only 35mW 685s. (Which I'm still waiting for.) Are you sure you dont have those two mixed up?

So has nobody powered their diodes up yet?

I have successfully installed one of mine into a constant on/off pen.
Here's a quick view:

The diode's raw profile is very elliptical like most low power 635nm diodes I have seen.

The 3-element Aixiz 650nm glass lenses and the regular acrylics reshape the beam into a more circular profile, however I wanted less optical losses so I can run this diode at the lowest possible current to get 20mW out (thus keeping the wavelength as short as possible). I created my own 2-element 650nm coated acrylic lens in a plastic Aixiz lens nut.

This lens gives me 20mW vs. 16mW with standard acrylic. The beam at the aperture is also thinner. On the downside, the beam profile is very elliptical and there is some splash.

Here it is compared with my 40mW 638nm laser (currently up for auction). The 40mW has a much rounder beam profile.

Here is the 20mW 635nm compared to 10mW 589nm and 20mW 405nm. The 589nm is about 50% brighter.

Thanks, DJNY!
