UPDATE: Box broke when I picked it up, so I am getting a new flat rate box to put it in. I am glad it broke before I dropped it off at the PO and not after though lol. Would of been a lot of missing stuff and a bad day when the husk arrived.

EDIT: I would recommend every person on the list have a Large Flat Rate box handy for when you get the box. Better safe than sorry.

I may need to jump on this sometime soon cuz I have a bunch of random small optics from CD/DVD drives and a couple dissected Cores if anyone's interested :beer:
 
Eh, if it was optics from an old video disk player from the 80s, yeah, I would be interested, but the optics from a small sled, I'd pass.
 
I'm wondering if we have too much weight in this box.

(That's the second failure, in how many hops? 4?)

30 lbs is a lot to ask of one cardboard box. I realize we want to get our money's worth out of the flat-rate shipping, but it's going to be moot if the box fails in transit, and some of the contents are lost.

Perhaps we should make an effort to lighten the load somewhat. Or split it into two boxes. It's going to suck for everyone if contents of this box end up lost because we overfilled it.

Just a thought.

I believe the best option is for everyone to use a new box. If we start splitting this up into more than one box, the shipping charges will escalate to the point that no one will want to see these boxes coming. That's the way I see it, anyway.
 
Perhaps the quality of the boxes has diminished :(

Can someone try wrapping the entire sides of the box with strapping tape?

Maybe invest in a hard shell case to ship around? You can slap an address on a flight box or pelican case and call it a day.

Great idea, however the catch there becomes the fact that we won't be able to take advantage of the flat-rate shipping (i.e., it'll likely cost significantly more to ship a 35+ lb box around the country).

Unless of course, it fit *inside* a flat-rate shipping box...
 
The problem as I see it is the box has too much stuff. So, as the kind hearted member I am, I'll just take out some more stuff! That should fix the problem. And a small flat rate box will be much cheaper to send around.

JUST. KIDDING. Lol, I will make sure the box is secure before shipping it out, I'm not worried about the Large FR boxes being good for a single trip, and luckily they are free. Just waltz in to your nearest USPS and grab one, tip your hat to the fine people at their stations, and waltz out in as fine a fashion as you did coming in.
 
The solution is much easier, you guys need to pick up some of that really heavy duty packing tape that has the strings of fiber in it. Use it around every axis and across the corners, just tape the crap out of it with that stuff, like a mummy,
and it will make it there. It may not look like a box, possibly more like a bag, but it will get there....
 
I got called in to work today but I am packing it like this:

The box
Multiple trash bags to line the box. This way if box tears, nothing escapes.
Everything cozily packed
Trash bags tied off
Box closed
Packing Tape
 
If i can, i will put a box inside the box. if i have the right size box, that is. box inside a box, wrapped in crap load of tape, should survive. and no im not saying this so i will have to fill less volume, im saying if i can find a random box here at my house that is just smaller than the flat rate box. Or if you want, i can make an MDF inner box and make it sturdier than Chuck Norris' pants.
 
Alright, I have the box completely packed up and about to run up to post office. There is not a single square centimeter of the box not wrapped in tape. There are two trash bags lining the interior of the box to protect incase of box tears(unlikely). There is foam and bubble wrap inside the bags to protect items against shock damage. And everything is fit in there like a goddamn jigsaw puzzle lol.

Couple things i noticed:
1. The amps take up a LOT of space. We will probably run out of room in the box after this. One thing to consider is removing the amps and if someone wants them(obviously in list priority) they could pay for it to be shipped directly to them. This would lessen risk of damage to the amps and reduce space requirements. Just a thought.
2. There is so much stuff in there. Omg. Seriously guys good luck digging through it all.
3. Please remember to cross out or add an edit on the list to things you take out so that people don't spend a long time looking for something they see on the list and liked.
4. When putting things back in, make sure to put the stuff in boxes on the bottom and try to make them occupy all the corners. That way if something tears, nothing falls out. And it gives additional structural integrity to the box.

anyway, off to the PO now!
