FREE DIY open source BOOST driver!!! Tested & working!!

I will agree with the pot option I think it is important. The fixed restistors I would say are good for newbies that cant afford to lose a diode it's order diode order driver set at exactly this make laser never change laser. Having a pot makes changing things alot easier without soldering.

I paralleled 3 760's tonight and it doesnt look doable... They get hot very quick I had better luck with the dual 1050's I thaught they would run cooler but they dont that I can see they were stable at 2.4 on 4 diodes for only about 7 seconds then they dump to about 500ma. the dual 1050's would last about 20-25 secs b4 dumping. There must be something going on with how they react together at that current.

Sorry Ben But why would you be playing with ben boost designs while your on vacation!!! Where did ya go??? Cumon! Cant be that boreing!! (Sorry I dont get vacations..) I'm sending out your driver tomorrow so it should be there soon after ya get back...

So another thing I was thinking was is there another ic in the same package that we could be replacing this one with without changing the design that would give us better current out with less heat? I know some drivers are going to 3A nowaday's and the components are very small so just a thaught. I like being able to make my own drivers and adjusting them how I want.

I like this driver alot or I wouldnt have spent all the cash to make it but it is lacking in areas that the Diodes are dictating these day's.

Here I preped a saik heatsink for bonding and to make sure the caps didnt short out...

Kizdawg, no, there are no drivers that are going to be in this package size that can handle >2A like the BlitzBuck, TPS drivers, or the X-Drive can without requiring an external MOSFET. It's just not reasonable to expect that.

I try! Is this what Ben was talkin about? no not a boost but resistors gaulour!

This is my new 29ma Mohgasm Lineear Thanks!

I see my driver. :)
I didn't have the right smd component for the 30mA and went for 1/4W metal resistors instead.

I am almost done with my triple BB driver. I glueing them one at the time to prevent misplacing of the drivers. :)
They are set with R200, R270 and R270 for a total output of 2.2A in practice. Theoretically it is higher but there is always some loss in output.

Kizdawg :D I just love your posts. They are so entertaining :D  cheers bro.

Me too! There is no one on here with the raw ENTHUSIASM for the hobby that Kizdawg has!!! I don't know how to explain it, but you have such a "jump in there and start trying stuff" attitude that it inspires me to get off my butt and do more and it is entertaining to watch too.

I don't know where you get all your energy though. You need to mail some of those pills to me!!!!

:D

You are truly an asset to the forum and you are going to zip right past some of us old codgers on your knowledge and skills at the rate you are going. I'm glad you are on here!

So is anyone selling these with the fixed capacitors? Or any boost driver that will put out 500mA for that matter? I bought a 500mA one before for a 12x build but it's got the 10uF caps and I don't have the steady hand to solder it myself.

:friend: and a good old :gh:

Well this hoby has given me a good challenge.. I allway's seem to be a 'go all in or go home' kinda guy yet there is still so much I havent learned about this hoby. So I know it will keep me interested for a long time. Next will be larger projects I'm thinking. Combining beams or projector or maybe I'll get back to the CNC. I dont know.. I really want to make a green too but it seems prety dificult.

Anyway's Thanks for the support! :)

ARGLaser I would not risk hooking that one with the 10uf caps to a 12x. I could send you some caps to change it I think depending on what board you have. I could probably make you one if ya want. I'm prety sure cajunlasers is selling them too. I havent priced out the boards I have yet but could figure it out prety easy.

I might have something... PM coming

Call me crazy. :D
I have just finish triple Ben Boost driver. It will be use with 3x parallel 18650 for a massive current surge. :)
So far it is stable. The output is 2.172A

Has anybody got some LM3410 ic's ? I have three blown-up drivers and replacing the ic will bring them back to life.

Well I redid mine and actually soldered them together this time I was thinking I had a bad connection and I got them to work at 2.4A on 4 diodes for about 40secs without heatsinking then the A droped to 1450ma ish for about another 15 secs then 500ma. That is alot better than I expected without heatsinking I was also thinking there would have been more of a current drop with these drivers so I wasnt expecting to see the 2.4A I was expecting more like 2.1-2.2A So I may have to mix in a 500ma driver and pull one of these 760's. Would love to hear about more testing you have done on your setup Blord.

Actually Ben if ya put a pot on that board and the heatsink pad I think we will see alot better results we will be able to tweek a driver here and there to get exactly what we want.

Eeek, what has become of this.... POTs ? Noooooo! Oh well, I guess some people like variability. I like the security of fixed resistors. But I guess if you're not reflowing your own, but rather buying them, then fixed resistors might be frustrating.

Ben: Not AWOL, just making myself more rare around these parts. Don't have as much time these days.

Today I did manage to squeeze in an afternoon of reflowing some of the other driver designs that have been lingering in my Eagle folder for the last two months.
