"First Look" at The 500mW Mitsubishi ML501P73 635nm/638nm diode is in.!

Re: The 500mW Mitsubishi ML501P73 635nm/638nm diode is in

Lazerrer...Drlava DOES have these optics in stock. I will construct a proof of concept unit by mid Janruary. Unfortunately...I still do not know if I can get a P73...so a G71 may have to stand-in. As it is likely the two LD's have the same emmiter size and optical characteristics...if the G71 works...it is hopeful the P73 will deliver the same beam geometries....just be able to be driven to a greater mW PO. Hey, just wanted to say that i think that you-all have done a great job on R&D-ing the new Mitsu 300 and 500mw diodes..

YES !!! I agree Steve. I am thankful for the work being done at LPF....as well as PL. The post by Bionic-Badger in the Optics section is VERY interesting....VERY INTERESTING !!! Both sites are making contributions...and though I have posted more concerning beam correction optics on PL concerning the 300mW LD...however...The first plan on how to correct the G71 for a hand held is posted here !! Both sites have great contributions....and further our knowledge. I am grateful for BOTH LPF and PL and check each site daily. BEAM

I should've asked this before, but is the acrylic coated lens better than the regular coated glass lens? I usually use the latter only because I'm afraid the former might melt some day, but does the acrylic lens do a better job?

All the AR coated acrylic is it produces 3-4% more power over the 3 element Glass lens from Aixiz.

The Glass lens appears to clean up the dot better but i see more artifacts coming off the dot with the glass lens then i do with the acrylic.

As long as you keep the Acrylic lens around focused to infinity it will not melt. In fact the lens is not what melts its the black plastic holder that does so keeping it around infinity focused it makes little contact with the plastic black holder.

The AR coated acrylic lens is the same Optic as what you get with the standard Acrylic lens that you receive when buying a 12mm module. They just AR coat that.

So you can use one of those if you want to compare the "Dot" between the 2 lenses.:)

The challenge with acrylics, is with *idiots* that buy 635 multi-mode builds "to burnnnn stooof yeeehaw, woooot!". Trying to do that with an acrylic is when you'll start focusing the lens in an inappropriate position, and the black plastic may burn. Otherwise, I've found the acrylics more pleasing than the 3-element glass for 635s.

EDIT: As a side-note, what I would love to see would be either:
1) A metal mount for an acrylic lens
2) A single-element glass lens with the same focal specs as the acrylics (that didn't cost a G1's worth of dough)

Thanks for the info! I tended to favor those glass lenses simply because the housing was so nice and they had to be used with the 405nm and 445nm lasers or they'd melt. I'll try swapping my lenses on my 635nm.

Dyr gets 1.1W out of his 300mw mithubishi diode at 1.5A how can that be, the heatsink?^^

1) It was a Freak. However yeah it hit 1W but it dint stay there for long. Power dropped stupid fast with those diodes when you over driver them.

These 500mW diode are ROCK solid. Almost no drop in power. Iam actually waiting to see if i can get my hands on another one of these now as i want to turn this guy up. I bet you on a cold start it can hit much higher then the final power it hit in my chart when i was testing the diode at room temp.

I also have a freak 300mW version it was the first one that i tested on the forum that hit Just under 1W. I turned it back a little an you can see whats the peak in my sig now.

However power drops near 2-300mW with the 300mW version diode running at those currants which is No point.

The Most i would run the 300mW diode is up to 750mW with a G1 lens. If you have an average diode you wil get that with 3x AMC-7135 chips.;)

You might want to take a look at this thread i did on the 300nmW version.

Alot of information from people in there>:)

GR8....I continue to work with Kiyoukan on optical solutions. I really have two projects; 1)A handheld with a 300mW... overdriven somewhat due the minimal duty cycle combined with DrLava C-lenses and the 405-G-2 Collimation lens... and 2) The optimal optics for use in a projector application.

My goal is to equal the divergence of a prism corrected 445 LD with acceptable nearfield geometry for my scanner mirrors. The quest goes on !!! Not there yet....but getting closer !!! I now have a set of the optics which Bionicbadger discovered from Meredith Instruments ( Thanx BB )....just about to set it up. There is more too this than we initially thought. Variables with the Collimation lens OTHER than the fL....plus variations with the cylinderical lenses !!! MANY variables !!! And finding the best combination still has not been acheived....but we are working on it !!!

The handheld WILL happen....just gotta get it done !!! That application is less demanding.....just boils down to machining the parts !!

As far as the 500 mW LD.....I have been buggin DTR. So far just promises from Rayfoss...NO PRODUCT...so I cannot add any experiments yet. From what I have read.....sounds lika solid 1W can be acheived...,at least for limited Duty Cycle !!! So.....we just havata wait !!!!

ohh you post here now hmm cd beam isnt it a bit late?
Yea i just got contacted by dave from lsp he has another lens option better than the 2.9fl
So i might not have to get one custom made.
Lots of variables.
My latest youtube video show a 4mm beam with a mrad under 1.1 but still know i can get better.
