... Let's just say Crysis 2 is running sh***y console graphics ... There are four graphics settings that you can currently change in game: 1. resolution 2. v-sync 3. fullscreen 4. system spec ...
How Crytek doomed Crysis 2's PC version - DasReviews ...

Oh man, that makes two of us :'( I knew that PC as a gaming platform would eventually go from the "cutting edge" to the back burners but I never thought it would be this soon...

I can apprceciate the devlopers (Crytek) no longer having the budget or timeline from the Producers (EA) to deal with the umilmited combinations and permutations that is, essentially, the PC platform but I was hoping a few developers would still hold out. But the consoles have won the battle, with only Enthusiast PC HW manufacturers & vendors really loosing out here. Consoles don't evolve as quick as PC Graphics cards...

Long gone are the days where we had unlimited configuration options...

*Sniff*... my Crysis cfg file...

***EDIT***
Can't forget, Unreal which was "unreal" when it came to configuring and optimizing everything... Unreal was the first game I played to incorporate 4ch surround sound... Razorjacks screaming by... :)

I love your macros for in game, although maybe a bit too cliché.

Try with
"I'll kill you so hard you'll die to death!"

Anyhow, your configuration looks pretty decent in that Crysis 2 configuration file.
Besides, what's the point of running it through maximum available settings?

If you can't enjoy the game unless on highest graphics settings, you'll never enjoy any game at all, not to the fullest.

Now, since Crysis 2 is more of a techno-demo than an actual game, it's kind of a moot point to play it with extremely low settings. But your settings are not extremely low and as long as you're not playing on 640x480 like me on my lappy, you're good.

Remember it can always get worse.
Hell, in one year, it will, when both of our machines won't be able to run newest DX49 games on 23.000x12.000x1.000 actual 3D resolution monitors.

For now, enjoy your game while you can run it :)

Looks like you answered your own question, huh...

Btw, it's my Crysis cfg file, not Crysis 2.

.....
"I'll kill you so hard you'll die to death!"
.....

ROTFL !

This remember me a (real) official police report i've seen times ago, where the investigator declared "the corpse of the deceased was presenting evident signs of death" .....

Yeah, Horatio will find this one confusing as hell huh?
Alexx: "Hey H, the cause of death appears to be, well, another death. He was killed to death like, twice!"
Horatio: "It looks like he's sh*t..." *sunglasses* "Just got f**ked up!"
Helll noooooooo!!!

When my regular rig was working i was checking out the HL2 Firearms Source Mod.

But right now i'm immersed in Thief II.

Traveller - I think you'll be able to run it at the max settings. That is if you want to call them max settings. I have a single Radeon 4870 and it doesn't have any problems ...
At least in "high" with my system:

Intel C2D E6850@3.00GHz
ASUS P5B-Deluxe
2GB XMS2-6400C4 DDR2@883
eVGA 9800GTX @675M1950
OS: XPsp3
DirectX: DX9c
nVidia: 260.99 / HQ settings (def = "quality")

But in vHigh & extreme, the frames start to fall below reasonable levels... . Here are comparison shots in high, very high & extreme (note that there is no "low" or "medium"... it's all marketing hype). I think for the most part that the differences are in lighting and shadow quality.

1680x1050, High (click for original screen)

1680x1050, Very High (click for original screen)

1680x1050, Extreme (click for original screen)

Regarding the very limited rendering options, there's already a mod out that allows the user to tweak the settings at a Crysis/ Warhead level of detail. Please note that I haven't installed it! I will play through the game once & then try the mod... .

I hereby happily proclaim that I have just finished Crysis 2 yesterday and, contrary to first two games, it's exeptionally good game, not just simply tehnological demonstration.

Pretty damn good. Also, graphics are incredibly photorealistic and I have simply played through the game at "Advanced" settings, which is "Medium" , since I visually see apsolutely no difference between that and Hardcore, except that performance really suffers at Hardcore settings.

I also have this tweaking program and you can tone the game down so it's made playable on my laptop which has nVidia 9300M inside it, along with Pentium Dual Core (Model is T3200 is anybody wants to know).

Highly reccomended game!

OK, now that's done, let's play some more Mass Effect 2.

Agreed. Crysis 2 is awesome. I guess I have to play about 1 hour now till I see the finish.

What I don´t like is that they didn´t integrate the DX11 or 10 mode. Read that the patch will never come. I´m happy to own a PS3 and an old notebook, but I feel sorry for all the PC gamers who were responsible for Cryteks former success (Far Cry, Crysis 1).

Saw a $24 Mass Effect 2 new offer today at my local electronic store, but I´m gonna wait for the third part. Too many games to play right now :tinfoil:

I haven't even finished Crysis 2 yet... Guess you could say I'm not that happy with it. I was hoping for something more advanced graphically. I don't think it even comes close to stressing my system. I'm running W7 64 bit, 4GB DDR3, Intel Q6600 and a Radeon 4870.

You are kidding me right?

This is one of most photo-realistic games I've had chances to play. Pretty darn good one too, at it.

And you're looking for stressing your system? Dude, I'll tell you one thing:
You will never enjoy any games. None at all. You seek technicalities, game's engine characteristics, how it stresses the system and how well your own can perform under stress of the game.

Me? I play it because it's a damned game, not because I want to stress my computer.

People really need to stop paying attention at this and need to start paying more attention at games.

I'm not saying one should totally neglect graphical and technical details. But hell, you should say "OK so engine is more optimised than CryEngine 2, which is great, and looks great, and I can play it no sweats on my system. Cool, let's play" But instead, you go "Meh, it does not stress my system".

How can you be so damn cold? :D I mean, developers have put insane effort into optimisation and everything. I seriously can't think of any technical detail that can be implemented to make the game more great. Accept the game as it is, and play it as such.

If you really want to stress your system, go play ArmaII. Or first Crysis.

So? Everything except in game settings is a good change in my book.

I mean seriously, if worse drawbacks of the game you can find is the fact that you can't cut a tree in half with your assault rifle (Which you'd never do in reality), and that leaves on a bush are not bending around player's ass (which you'd never pay attention to in reality), then you know the devs did a hell of a job.

Spit on a game as much as you want. It's damn good in my book.

As I said, it's not a tech demo like previous two were. It's a damned GAME. Unlike first two, it's actually playable.

So? ... Spit on a game as much as you want. It's damn good in my book.
So, it's not all about optimization, it's also about streamlining rendering effects so that they can "optimize it" on the console platforms.

In the good old days, the PC was the platform to push technology to the next level; now it's more important to optimize it to look decent on consoles with three-five-year old HW technology.

I'm looking very much forward to Portal 2 but I'm not even expecting any updates in rendering techniques, but this is a different topic. VALVE didn't bow down to any specific platform for the purpose of retail figures

As for Crysis 2 being good or not, I can't say as I haven't finished playing it yet. I'll get back to you on that ;)

You do that, you won't regret it.

Anyhow, about making the game work on consoles, I'll put it this way:
It's a great game. It's made playable on more consoles so more people can enjoy a great game.

What's the problem in that?

Also, I'd like to divert your all attention to the article Traveller here mentioned.

Author says he finds this:
light-cry.jpg

And this:
light-cryw.jpg

MORE realistic, than this:
light-cry2.jpg

Also, this:
tree-cry.jpg

And this:
tree-cryw.jpg

More realistic than this:
tree-cry2.jpg

From there on out, I can conclude two things:

First - author is extremely prejudiced against console ports and compatibility, overall against Crysis 2
TWO, author has never lifted his fat ass out of the chair and actually took a look outside, hence has no concept of what actual "realistic graphics" would look like, instead he just considers CGI with more advanced elements "realistic".

Then again, if I had a computer capable of running those settings:
settings-cry2.jpg

...neither would I :p

Just finished Crysis 2, soo much better than Killzone 3!

Played it in "Sölnder" difficulty level. It was a good choice, had no problems till the last mission.

What´s next? Castlevania: Lord of the Shadows
