First and Third Person shooter Games thread

I forgot about the Max Payne games, they were pretty good, I've played a bit of Black Corps on the Wii and I'm very impressed. Some bits are like WTF is going on and gets blasted to bits but if a game was too easy you wouldn't have fun playing it, right ?

Hmm, I'm interested to see what Black Ops looks like on Wii.
Must be ton of fun shooting with the controller :)

Damn, I want a Wii now.

...American McGee's Alice ... Cryostasis ...
I really enjoyed Alice :D But that's going back a ways... ! Say, how was Cryostasis? Would you recommend it... even today? Re: It's 18mth old ( but heck, I still play Half-Life 2 games like Portal and the technology's still acceptable - if not cutting-edge... ;))

BUNCH OF YOUNG PUPS!!

This was the First shooter game that I played.
Castle Wolfenstein!

When you shot someone they made this strange squeeking sound...and you could only kill the SS officers with a grenade!
Here's a link to some game play....made me laugh, I actually remember being pretty good at this!

Half Life rules. O finished all games, and can't wait for Episode 3. Any ETA perhaps?

Also, have you tried the "Counter-Life" modification for first Half-Life?
It enables you to purchase weapons you see in Counter Strike, in the main Half-Life campaign. Shoot enemies, collect money, go to health station and purchase a gun ... priceless :D

Finally, blasting those Zombies away with AK47 and M4, also AWP and Desert Eagle from time to time. :D

Or any other gun you favoured in CS.

Castle Wolfenstein!
Wow, respect
But I guess it took them a few more years to bring it up to 3D! My first (3D) game was Doom, so I'm a few id games behind you :D I even have Doom and Wolfenstein 3D on GBA cartridges

I 'll have to check out your link, thx!

I'm kind of going offtopic here but what the he!!-

My first games that I've played in my life overall, are ones that are made for NES consoles, however here in these parts we didn't have original Nintendo ES, but rather a pile and 900 copies of it.

In any case, games came on yellow cartridges which contained either one large game (Contra 2 being my fav), or like "100in1" which is basically 5-6 games (Battle City, Duck Hunt, Galaxian) with 20 modifications for each, but are very very minor, often just copy paste job.

My first "real" game was probably one of these two, but I can't remember exactly which, both are on Pentium PC though already,
Tyrian - > See here , can also download entire game for free (10 megs, that was like 6-7 disks at the time, pretty damn impressive game, I still play it to this day!)
Supaplex - Supaplex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is pretty damn difficult game, but insanely addictive and fun one at that. Reccomended.

So ehh, when do we switch topic back to DX11 era? :D

I didn't mean to take it off topic really....
I don't play as many games as I used to...of course some since the one above;)
I will say that I loved playing ==Red dead redemption. I like that you can freely wander around and take quests at your will.

COD4 is considered to be best game of the series today, and I do love it. Multiplayer rocks too. I love COD6 singleplayer more though...
Here's a rendering comparison article which will give everyone who hasn't played all recent COD games some insight.

EDIT:

I love multiplayer just as much as the next FPS freak...

Just dug up this GIF file I came across on the Net...

You really love Dead Space, huh? :D Not as much as I like Mass Effect but alright :)

Good thing you bumped this, I just finished Far Cry a few hours ago. Again, in a long time.

I don't even remember my first playthough well, I think I cheated through levels or something. Hell, it was so long that I don't even remember how I managed to run it on that NVidia MX440 ...

Anyhow, I had it patched up to 1.4 and HDR rendering was enabled. While it was pretty cool at times...

Sometimes it went a little unrealistic. In the level at the night, where Vallerie leaves you on that island, and you have to acquire CryVision goggles, if you look up into the dark sky, the HDR will just keep boosting up the brightness until your gun and everything else caught in the view just goes into white mass.
Looking down will bring everything back to normal in a second or two.

Anyhow, the game was beaten on normal difficulty, the default one. Wow, sure is quite challenging game.

Also, did anybody notice how Far Cry has one of most realistic gun sounds in the game? Desert Eagle (ingame Falcon .357) in particular, not quite as "loud" but it's basically the same gunshot as in real life.

Anybody else played through it, wanna discuss strategies and levels? :D

Last week i accidently found out Black Ops is 3D capable. I was very surprised because there is no explicit mention of it.
Next week i will try if the PC version is althought doing in 3D.
