eBay 5mW 473nm hmm.. $75?

Nice find. Dammit why does stuff like this always pop up when I decide it's "No more laser stuff for awhile!" time? I'm not a fan of the exposed PSU but for $89 shipped for 5-10mw (or more) of 473nm goodness I bet I could find some sort of enclosure for it.

A shoe box will do :banned:

Xplorer got inbetween 20-30mW outta his with a few simple turns of the pot posted I'n his thread , just said the driver gets a little hotter

The head is not built cheaply. It is probably heavier than a softball. The driver is what really takes up volume and mass!

They're good little units, they tend to produce around 5-30mW with the optical feedback removed. NOTE: these units do not have beam correction from the crystals and most have some kind of spatter or light leakage around the dot. You will need a two lens beam expander to properly collimate the output beam of these lasers. Otherwise the beam is like >5mRad

I bought a "few" myself =P

@jakeGT
Hmmm, let us have any news ok?

@MarioMaster
Thanks. Well, the hardest part to get is here, the labby itself. The correction can be done afterwards :p I think the hobbists are up to that here.

i have good news leo! I got it today! Now i just gotta take some pics, this thing is bigger than i figured, and pretty darn heavy

Congrats on the new "toy." If I can make one request could you measure about how big the PSU is and how long the cable from it to the head are so I can try to scrounge up a housing for it? I haven't talked myself into one yet but I think another hour of negotiations should do it. :p

Man ita pretty sickk... Especially for $87 shipped I'n u.s I got mine in 4-5 days

Add a few drops of diy fog, and you get a very lovely blue beam, but as MM said, divergence is b-a-d

And I will do asap, I have photobucket on my phone which is what I'll have for the next
4-5 hrs.

I may get time to upload comparison pics

edit: i got your measurements and pics in this thread guys

U have a handheld 473! Trade ya? :beer:
Yeah, I have 3 atm, but the lab laser thing is appealing. My 473nm portables are likely to be with me for a long long time, one's a LG Aquarius -10 (a rare laser engraved unit), better in mW and operating cw is my Viasho which is much brighter after a few min. of being on, and I have a unit here, that is only a couple of min. near peak of 60-90 or so mW, but not too interested in letting any of these go. :D But thanks for the offer. -GH

Yup, but after the correcting lenses it's about 10-15mW with a messy beam. It's worth it if you really love collecting wavelengths.

There is no way in hell it can me made into a handheld. The moment you start messing with the crystal internals you'll screw it up. Also you'll need 2.5 volts and like 2 amps. Pretty power hungry for a 10mw laser. :D

Haha come on now Glenn I was just joking! Who would trade $87 for probably closer to $500 or $1000 haha. I was just kidding with ya, if I ever get a 473 portable itll be with my for a long time to!

@Xplorer877
Lets get a LM1117 and a high discharge LiFePO4 cell, there you go, handheld (probably a 3kg handheld, but still a handheld) :p

yeah you'll have a friggin ten pound pointer. haha.

did you go check out the other thread yet leo?
