LOL thanks. I flipped it on one day after work then sat down on the couch to read my email and promptly dozed off for a couple hours. Whoops!

I bought the cavity on ebay awhile back. Was about $25. It was just the cavity that included TEC, optics etc. No pump diode or PSU.
I pumped 10watts of 808nm into the cavity from from my fiber laser. Only got about 1mw of blue. Must have blown the coatings off the mirrors.....:(
Should have bought this one rather that included the PSU/pump diode etc
 
Blue and yellow are picky. You can't just blast the cavity with lots of IR like you can with green and get decent output. Did you have any optics on the fiber output to focus the IR properly onto the cavity? Half the stuff in these particular heads are optics to shape the IR and focus it on the crystals properly. Also the wavelength of your pump matters a LOT as well. are you sure it was right on 808nm? It being even a few nm off can have drastic effects on efficiency.


ANd yes, that appears to be an identical crystal set.
 
I can't get more than 10mw out of mine and it does heat up quite a bit so i probably dont have the pots set optimally. it would be amazing if someone could somehow specify their settings in terms of number of turns of each pot. however this would probably depend on the specific head, wear and tear, etc.

I tried to get info from BWB. they asked for the sn and pics and once they had that they pointed out it was surplus and dont support it. damn! there is a complete service manual in a file cabinet somewhere... sigh.

I wonder if adjusting the optics would also help to get more output. i know someone here did try this and it was a PITA to get the LD positioned properly.

I'd like to know the best way to get more output from it.
 
I think the best way to get more power from yours.. is to buy another one. By the fact you were getting 56mW out of it before, and was running it unregulated, I bet you anything you damaged the pump diode.

And I pretty much got the same response from B&W tech about the driver info. They told me they it was a driver they hadn't produced or supported in years, though they not so subtlety hinted that if I were to buy laser products from them, that they'd 'see what they could do' about info on this driver.
 
hmmm. that may be true. but then i am uncertain that those readings are legit only because before and after that particular experimental run, i was getting the usual ~10mW output. this makes me question those higher readings i was getting at that particular time which i have not been able to replicate. could have been a loose connection on the sensor connector, or dying batteries in the LPM causing erroneous readings.
 
I have one of these that hits 80mW steady with the feedback removed. The most
current ive measured to the pump is only .8A at most...

I dont think it is possible to burn the LD with the stock driver..

The alignment in these heads are also really sensitive.. a 50mW 473 output
can drop to nothing if you sneeze on them.

I had also received a few units where the TECs had split in two, and the alignment
was affected. You wont notice a broken TEC unless you pull the crystal platform...

I am waiting for some casix ktp's in the mail to replace the LBO... Going to be a nice project,
I just wonder what the max 808 can be put through the Nd:YAG..

I wish I had a 473nm laser. $75 is cheap, but after 50$ shipping and taxes and stuff it's just a little too much. Maybe later.
 
Wow this looks like a pretty sweet deal for a decent amount of 473nm goodness :)

*Must resist spending all money on lasers*
 
don't resist! if your in the us, its 87 bucks shipped. VERY VERY much worth the price.
