CLOSED! Now Distributing ROUND 2!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

Where do you buy the displays from in the states? Don't see that as a radio shack item:thinking::thanks:
Any pics of the prototype or any of the parts you use Bob?

Thanks Blord. Gotta look into one that isn't blue though I think.
Going to head off to radio shack and pick up a couple things. I was just looking at your grippy pad and the 5 volt battery case. I've got a couple of the 4 cell cases allready (aaa and aa) and have alot of eneloopps so that was also a great idea on your part. Want to see what else radio shack has that I don't allready have in the 4 cell and pick up a couple 7805s while I'm there just in case.
Found the grippy pads in stock at Best Buy. My box looks to be the same size as yours. Nice to have an ophir now so I can contribute more meaningful data.
Has anyone adding logging yet? My Fluke87V can record min/max.
Great having more of us with good quality measuring tools:yh:

I thought you want a panel from the US. What color of the panel are you looking for ? I have yellow and Offroad has a red panel.

I have ordered the datalogging add-on from Arglaser. I should be at my place any moment now.

Have a red one in my Awillis one. Blue is going to get blocked out with galsses. Just looking for a different color. Heading out. I'll look back again in an hour or so. Could use a white one and put lenses over it:p Gotta look into what colors are available. Your yellow one is a good option. Someone must have it here in the states I'm sure.

Tes, not surprised at the overspec 405. Can't remember ever getting a 405 from anythwere that wasn't overspec.
The 450 reading is one of those annoying "what do I do now" things. Think I would take multiple readings on it. Do you have a multimeter so you can check the voltage of the IMRs just to make sure they are at peak? Annoying to be just under spec:(

Don't have a multimeter handy, but for a "quick & dirty" check, I switched the battery sets (after a "top off" recharging) between the two lasers, and the results were 84mW for the 460 and 599mW for the 405, so I'm inclined to think it's not a battery problem.

I'm still very happy with the 460; I don't know whether I want to/should mess with it for another 15-20 mW; can DPL's be modded/adjusted?

Absolutely correct guys, I'm sorry. I removed all Ophir related content posted by me in this thread. Please don't ask me any more about it here as I won't respond.

Bob

Not trying to cause any trouble guys. The posting usually gets pretty lite on the weekends. I'll leave it up to Offroad if he would like to move all this ophir discussion somewhere else:)
When things started getting all messed up with the GB the LPM and readings really ramped up. It's important that units are being tested properly/correctly before someone decides to send a unit back. Would hate to see it turn out bad for someone.

Ordered the blue one from the link you sent Blord. Took the red one out of the other unit, made a connector from a computer connector so I could just snap the blue one into the other lpm when it comes. It's all up and running with a 4-5mv standby. Using the 4 aa battery holder and the enoloops for power thru the spst switch so I can run it seperately or at the same time as a DVM. Box isn't cleaned up at all yet. Just shortened some of the wires and most of it is wire nutted at the moment

HLs and PLs can be pot modded but you do so obviously at your own risk so if you're satisfied, don't mess with it:)

I would say that Kevin is back home. Why?

I was getting about the same output from my 460 with a tailcap current of 140 mA. If you peel back the "danger" sticker above the LED, there's a small hole that provides access to a potentiometer. Turn it counterclockwise with a screwdriver to void your warranty and increase the power input/output. The output laser power looks to be directly proportional to the input battery power (only tested with constant voltage though). Once the tailcap current was set to 160 mA I got 100 mW output.

I think modding it was worth it, but we shouldn't need to in the first place. If you do, make sure there's nothing else wrong with the laser since you're voiding the warranty. Definitely use a multimeter to monitor the current, and take a look at this graph to get an idea of sane values.

Thanks, Kadath, for the good info and posting your experience and result. I saved the image file for later; might just try that someday when I have access to a multimeter.

+1 rep.

Anyone ever try and take apart an HL? Blord? Since you put one together, is it really even possible to take yours back apart? Thinking this would be VERY difficult without messing things up since it sounds like there's lots of glue joints....

By the way, found that the same seller that was selling the blue 4.5 digit panels on ebay also has the red ones on their site so I've got one of those coming along with the blue one. Maybe I'll throw the blue one on the opposite side with another spst switch so the color wouldn't be an issue at all:D

I don't think the HL laser can be taken apart. There are many glue joints in the host.
The aperture cap is glued. The lens barrel in the inner front is also glued for maintaining focus. The front half and the back half of the host is glued together. And the driver is also glued to keep it in place. I forgot the keylock is also glued. There are no retainer ring inside the HL host.

I have mine glued together with non permanent glue like superglue/silicone glue and not epoxy glue. It holds the laser but can also be taken apart when necessary.

Best way to take it apart is to buy it apart. :)
