Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

I've tested mine out with my Yellow Band lasers (589 & 593.5), my 200+mW 650nm Red, 635nm Orange (only 8mW's though), 600mW, 532nm. & all these bands hardley pass any of the colors (yes, even the yellow band, although they aren't listed) The only bandwidth that passes almost untouched is the "BLUE" Bands. I tested these not as a direct hit, but as a reflection off of a 1st surface mirror.

Ah, in which case these should prove fairly effective for a decent range of wavelengths and P.O.'s... they should seriously update the specs

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

Just remember that these tests were down with a specular reflection & NOT a DIRECT HIT, OK ? I don't want a one eyed Member saying "but you said, etc." !!!! I might as well state here & now that I am NOT responsible for ANYONES EYE DAMAGE, because they decided to try out for themselves what they read in my post. You don't know at which angle the reflection came into my goggles from, or the mW's of the lasers I used, & a myriad of other complications. I hold myself free & clear from any harm that may come to anyone trying to prove what I posted. Also, any experimenting that one may do to try to duplicate my tests, is done at YOUR OWN RISK. Gotta cover my butt with something other than my jeans & underwear, lol------------ rob

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

@ LazyBeam, What happens if you get a 473nm (>460nm) BLUE laser in the future ? You'll have little or NO protection !!!!

I'll have no need for a 473nm. 445nm is close enough, 10X cheaper, and 10X more powerful.
Besides, my WL free Lasershades will cover everything including green. :yh:

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

What if you get a YELLOW LASER ??

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

What if you get a YELLOW LASER ??

Well, seeing as how the only yellow lasers that pose any sort of risk are crazy-expensive, I don't that will be an issue.
If I can afford a >5mW yellow... I could probably afford to buy another set of glasses for them.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

There is only one filter available that is true broadband. It will protect you against all visible, UV and IR lasers at any power. Of course the VLT is 0% but the OD is 10+. They are stainless steel eye cups used by patients of doctors and dentists who operate laser systems.

You have to remember, the filters that have been developed have not and will never be developed for the hobby community. Even the junk Chinese filters were used elsewhere before making their way to the hobby. You can get custom filters for about any wavelength and OD you want, and we can get it for you, but I doubt anyone would be willing to pay to have that done since there is such reluctance to buy even existing protection.

I personally don't see the use after seeing these specs... or at least if they're true and not omitting anything important

-Chris

The ML7 for the hobby meets the protective needs for a few wavelengths common for pointers but in the industry they are unparalleled for those who work with open resonator YAG systems that need to be aligned. They protect against 532nm for doubled YAG, they protect against 808nm and 980nm for pump diodes and against 1064nm and other YAG wavelengths. The red protection allows alignment OD for aligning the optics train of YAG systems using a red diode laser or HeNe laser.

You won't find any other broadband goggles that protect at specific wavelengths across the visible and IR spectrum like the ML7. It's not the most ideal but it's the best available for those hobby wavelengths.

As far as what is true or not, we are absolutely forthcoming about the safety systems we offer and we have the certification documents to back it up. We also have the trust of the U.S. and Canadian governments as well as many university and national laboratories. Their laser safety officers seem to think our filters are pretty good.

Personally, I'm glad to see interest in safety systems as I believe it is important. With that said, however, do your homework. If you buy from us, that's great, we welcome you as a client but if you don't, just make sure you get something that is certified. Armchair analysis is no substitute for real standards testing.

Here's a gee-whizzer about the ARG filters: We have 3 or 4 pair in our lab. We use them for all blue and green to 532nm including pulsed systems. My pair is the ARG #34 style.

Well isn't this a sight for sore eyes :D Frothy-mothaf***in-Chimp!

Lol, we were getting bombarded with orders for the same type of filter from individual purchasers. That's the first clue to something happening on one of the forums. So I checked around. LPF was the source. Here I am to answer questions.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

I realize this is my first post and I am looking to get in on a GB but I swear I'm good for it.
Just in case you haven't been in a GB the individual buyers all need to pay when the GB is closed. The leader needs to have all the funds to place the order & pay for it. Everyone is then kept updated on the shipping & fulfillment of the GB.

We should get at least 26-27 buyers, 1-2 always jump off at the last moment.
Did you ask a VET for doing this GB to attract much more interested parties?
We need the goggles ASAP

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

The quoted discount is better than even the last OEM laser systems group buy, making an ML-7 purchase even more attractive with this GB. Please, yeah, ask a GB vet if he/she would be willing to handle this. I know I'm waiting on this GB for a pair (since I don't trust WL's if they ever decide to deliver, nor want one from Nova).

Can you also change mine from the KRY to the YLW. That VLT is so low on the KRY. I know it's just the interest list, but I don't want to forget the model.

K, I've updated the interest list. We're now up to 13!!

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

We talked it over at the office today and I think we'll will change things a bit. As no one is stepping up to do the group buy what we will do is offer a 7.5% discount across the board using a discount coupon. There are also volume discounts that automatically get applied for additional savings. This will allow smaller groups of people to get together to buy eye protection and still get decent discounts.

Normal quantity discounts:

2-5 Units is 5% discount
6-10 Units is 7.5% discount
11-25 Units is 10% discount
26+ is 15% discount

So, if you buy two pair of glasses you get a 7.5% discount plus a quantity discount of 5% resulting in a 12.5% total discount.

The coupon code is: HOBBYDISCOUNT and will be valid for one month (until 20 JUL 10). The discount can be applied to any protective eye wear and any frame style.

Let me apologize now for international shipments. We do not ship first class overseas. Everything we ship must be trackable so the minimum shipping method is priority mail. You can get in with a smaller group and work out shipping with them if priority is too expensive.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

/\ Would this still include free shipping? (non-international that is)

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

The only free shipping was for 26+ to the organizer of the group buy. This will still apply if we get an order for that kind of volume.

Re: GB for OEM Laser Systems protective eyewear

If there are less than 26 people, I´m out because due their system, shipping to Austria is to expensive for me.
