4W Blue Diode Coming! Single Mode Too !!

LiFePo4 batteries and either fan cooling or just short duty cycle. :D

This is great news, 4W, a 750mW single mode, and a 75mW 520nm, and since they are to be sold as part of projectors they are not likely to be that much more expensive than the 140's.

I wonder what effect we will be able to get out of them? :D

Wouldn't count on that - the 750 blue and 75 green are destined for pico projectors.. so, probably, 1 per $400 projector. Even if there's a decent red in there too, we're probably looking at $200 harvested diodes for the immediate future.

I think there's a decent chance the SHOWWX+ has a green diode in it, and not DPSS. Wouldn't bet my life on it, but it wouldn't shock me.

I'm pretty sure this was announced a while ago.
IIRC, the 4W diode is an array and not single mode.
The 750mW variant is single mode.

Also, I mentioned that there is no way you are going to make a 4W blue hand-held with current technology (except for something modeled after the Hercules - active cooling, D batteries, etc.).
You're talking Watts and Watts of heat generated, plus some real fancy optics and a huge power source.

I know, I know, buzz kill.

The news report said that they were using a monolithic chip.

We have the technology to make it work. :D

How monolithic though? Remember the bigger it is the more modes 'fit' and the more messed up the beam looks. Personally I hope these things have terrible beams and are very expensive. 4W handhelds will be the end of portable lasers. [Flame Suit On]

I hope for a groupbuy pretty soon :) i def. want a >4 watt 450 , handheld or not i don't care

The 75 mw green is nice but it's going to be TO much to pay for

Its not gonna be cheap :takeit:
Depens on how much 1 projector will cost + how many diodes will be placed in.
I hope more then 24 hehe so it will for us be cheap or equal as the diodes who we use now :)

I not thinking it wouldn't be equivalent to the currently harvested projectors. More powerful diodes would equal less diodes to complete an array.

But hopefully in a smaller and cheaper projector.
At $200 I would likely end up with just one of each.

I like the idea of the 4W but I wonder if the 750 single mode would be in the same projector?

And definately $200 for a 4W diode is in no way expensive fot that kind of power...
but unfortunately with being relatively affordable to achieve lasers with that power would definately up the chances of a noob getting one doing something to injure themselves or others. Whenever those diodes start to trickle into some of the lasers onto LPF community there might want to be some self regulation between forum members and buyers..

When the 445's were first offered on ebay they were going for $500.00+ea so expect these to be in that price range...
